| [AT&T] Old RAZR Question I have a RAZR (not the latest one, the last model from the original series- a non-smartphone). Anyway, this phone needs its own "special" wall charger to charge it, which I have, and it works. I lost the car charger for it. I tried using a USB to mini USB cable plugged into an iPhone car charger and a BlackBerry car charger. neither one will charge the phone. It recognizes that something is plugged in. It may even be running off of ther car's power, but it won't charge. Anyone remember what the deal is with charging this phone with a car charger? I thought it would take any car charger, but maybe not... | | Zach 58Premium join:2006-11-26 NW Minnesota | I've got an unbranded Moto V3xx left over from my days with Unicel. Definitely a good 'ole phone which still works great on Straight Talk (ATT).
Due to higher power required by modern smart phones, tablets, e-readers, etc, modern USB includes handshaking to determine the power requirements of the connected device. Since these old RAZR phones existed before this handshaking became mainstream, it sounds like your charger(s) are refusing to power up your phone.
You might try connecting your RAZR to a USB port on your computer. It should begin to charge. It may also show up as a removable drive. Mine has an SD card and it shows up in Windows Explorer. If your phone begins to charge, you will need to use a generic USB cigarette lighter charger with a 1.0A output or you could use an inverter with USB charging ports. If all else fails, you can use your home charger connected to the 120VAC receptacle on the inverter. -- Zach

I can charge the phone at home, as I have the original wall charger, so charging it isn't the issue. We use this phone for emergencies, such as today when my wife forgot her phone. We were too far to go back to the house to get it. I carry the RAZR in my backpack for just such occasions. I gave her the RAZR to use, but the charge was low, so I tried to charge it with the car charger, and a USB cable I also carry. I thought that combination would work, but it didn't.
I have an inverter (that we keep at home, not in the car). I guess the best solution is to keep the inverter in the car (I know- that makes sense anyway-what good is the inverter at home...).
