Re: [KY] Good speeds bad game/video playback Do you notice issues with any other sites? Do you stream with other sites as well? |

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | reply to MediacomChad Yeah that's why I tested on numerous channels. Swamping resolutions netted the similar speeds. I know sometimes I see huge download speed differences just swapping resolutions. Not in this case. In the end when this happens I can't even watch a 360p video on my cable connection without constant buffering and yet cellular connection does fine during these times. 'Site problems' shouldn't be connection specific. |

I experience that and so do others on other ISPs, especially on high qualities. |

| reply to TMar Um... Im pretty sure you can call in and get bumped up to 15Mbps for free WITHOUT going to the new caps. I know of several people in my area that did that, before I got the 30Mbps which doesn't bother me as it is just me on one computer and my highest has been 230GB or so. More if i'm uploading lots of pictures and audio files for the church that I work at. |

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | reply to MediacomChad One device, my computer (teathering done by wifi and USB an equal number of times). With auto HD for Chrome so 720p every time (it automatically enters large video mode and sets it to the desired (in my case 720) resolution.
Test done by doing wired connection for mediacom then disabling ethernet, turning on tethering and refreshing the page. Then disabling tethering and enabling the wired connection. Rise and repeated 5 times for each connection done on several videos. So ~35 tries on each connection. Speeds were fairly consistent for both.
The slowdowns happen almost daily from ~6pm-~10pm. At these times Steam, torrents of Ubuntu and speedtest can max the connection.

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | reply to TMar After testing with several videos it seems that while on Mediacom during these late afternoon youtube slowdowns where I'm currently buffering at ~200kbps. Tethering over to 3g gives me a nice constant ~1800kpbs on the same videos. Going back and forth bewteen 3g and cable on the same videos (again 5 different videos testing both connections 5 times each) nice speeds on AT&T cellular not so much on cable each time.

Speedtest speeds are constant... |

You can figure it out by doing a tracert to whichever site you would like and you can see through the hops whether they are AT&T servers or not. |

Are you using a wireless router? If you are, when you are having these issues, ping your routers IP directly and post the results. |

TMar join:2006-12-05 Gilbertsville, KY | reply to GLIMMER said by GLIMMER:there is no way your ping should be 50ms 2nd hop out Yeah, I agree. Mediacom always insists that it's fine. I've kinda given up on that. As from the second one I can be ~100ms before even leaving MC's control and that's fine with them. |

Can you send me an IM with your account or phone number so I can look into the issues you are having? |

I still get ~15Mbps/1.5Mbs on speedtest but can't even buffer a 360p video. With the video info box up it shows down jumping from 0 to only around ~500kbps then back to 0 for a second.
Watching pings in TF2 go from ~70 bouncing around up to ~160 and occasionally higher ~250ish. |
