DIY Canopy connectorizing

Hi All

Having an issue with a particular site i put up - i want to connect a canopy AP to an external sector antenna as i find the canopy 7dbi antenna and low output power are not enough to cover the valley i need.

So i am looking to connectorize one of the AP's as shown here

Does anyone have any close up photos. The company that is advertising this service on ebay is in the USA and i am too far away in New Zealand - so i have someone local here who can do the soldering for me.
I just dont know what terminals to instruct him to solar the connector to.

Has anyone tried this yourselves?

There are about 3 or 4 terminals under that connector so i am not sure which is the antenna and which is the earth.

Here are some photos of the radio i just opened up to show you.

Am thinking of a ubnt 16dbi sector using the vertical input, and i expect once i confirm the losses in the cable, will be well under our erip limits.

Does that reflector dish work with an AP?

From what the I gather he is trying to get more then 60* coverage and a more gain then the factory AP antenna. The dish will not work in this situation on the AP to get more coverage.

I would use the dishes for PTP situations or PTMP on the client side only.

Yeah those are for the clients and would reduce the beamwidth if put on an AP.

This should help you understand the connections...

.
The center conductor of the antenna is indicated. The other two are mechanical support for the antenna only.

Oh i always thought they had a centre-antenna and a outershell-earth

So if i understand that right, the centre one solders to the one you marked. Do the outer ones solder to the one to the lower left of it, or the brown flat 0 around it?

Examine the second photo you posted carefully. You'll see how it is done.

The pins should all line up correctly. You don't have to use all of the 4 ground pins...cut off what doesn't match up.

The good connectorization services open up the shield on the other side and solder from that side as well.

You might try finding a failed unit and practice on that prior to doing an operational unit.

Canopy was never very popular in NZ.
I was given 6 AP's and 50 CPE's for free and the hardware is exactly the same so gonna practice on a CPE before i let the guy play with an AP.
