[RESOLVED] Windows Update Code 8024800A

Click for full size
The screen picture is from a friends laptop. Its running Windows 7 Enterprise. As you can see, Windows Update is not able to search for new updates, and the error code that comes back is 8024800A.

I did a google search on that exact error code, and got nothing.

I have also looked into the event logs, but there are no Critical, Errors, or Warnings listed at all (I did clear all events before checking).

The other thing I did was to stop the Windows Update service, delete the file C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log and then re-start the service, as I wanted a clean log file.

Below is the code from that file. Not sure if it will help or not, but I figured I would post it just in case.

What else can I try? Open to any suggestions.

If anyone needs more information, please let me know.

Thanks,

--Brian

Re: [WIN7] Windows Update Code 8024800A

With any Windows Update problems, I always start by:

Stopping Windows Update service.
Delete everything in c:\windows\softwaredistribution including all subdirectories.
Start Windows Update service and try again.

That fixed it!

I'll have to remember that little trick.

Thank you so much for this one. Tried all afternoon but this one did the trick. So stupid how you have to do silly, nonsensical things like this do make the computer work.

It's not "nonsensical" and it's not like this issue affects all W7 computers. Just because sometimes you have to troubleshoot something does not make it "stupid," either.

Might I recommend »www.apple.com?
