 | Is the HD fee a box fee or a service fee? If I get HD service am I paying $10 a month for the HD service it's self or just the rental of the box? I am asking because I currently have SD service and am considering switching my box for a cable card. If I put the cable card into my own DVR with HDMI out will I still have to pay the $10 a month? |

 | you may have to pay a HD cable card fee / HD fee with a cable card box to get the HD channels.
Some people have gotten HD with a cable card and no HD fee. |

Putting the CC issue aside to answer your 1st question, paying the $10 HD fee DOES include an HD box on your primary (1st) outlet anyway. And, if you have have additional outlets (boxes), they also include an HD box as well. |

rjk @comcast.net | Still not clear. If you have no Comcast boxes (just tivo) do you still pay the HD technology fee? |

 | My understanding is that the HD technology fee was only required if you were using Comcast's equipment.

Scott I believe that is for the locals. The only thing the cable card does is tell the tivo what channels that allowed. The HD service has to be turned on for you to get HD programming -- Caddy |

 | Not with our local franchise. I get all the HD channels with no HD technology fee (2 Tivo's with CableCards).

Scott You will not get HD programming here unless you pay for it. -- Caddy |

 | Comes with our Digitial Preferred package and we've always received HD for the past 6 years that we've had our Tivo's and CableCARDS. Again we've never had an HD technology fee in this area although they did add it to the last rate schedule but I'm not being charged for it (and neither is my brother).
There's been a lot of discussion on the HD technology fee in the TiVo forums and the general concensus and feedback from Comcast in most franchises has been that it's only for where you have Comcast HD equipment (DVR, converter etc). I'm not positive that is consistently applied though across franchises so YMMV.

 | Can anyone in IL with a Tivo and Cable Card comment on if they are paying an HD tech fee? |

jlobb2 join:2013-03-28 Romeoville, IL | reply to grantsa4 I'm in Romeoville and use a cablecard only(with a Ceton InfiniTV 4 tuner) and get the HD channels in my package. If you look at the channel lineup, it shows the hd channels as being included with the package you subscribe to.
Here is the link for channel lineup in my area at least.

rjk @comcast.net | That is a very good point. If you pay for a package that includes HD channels, you should not have to pay an additional fee to receive them with your won equipment. |

 | reply to Bayshun1 yeah everyone in my area is getting hit with the hd technology fee. My family was complaining to me about it at easter. Asking me why they have this new technology fee. |
|
 | reply to Bayshun1 The $10 is a technology fee, and includes one box. Additional boxes are an additional $10/ea.
Using a cable card and no boxes will get you roughly $2 off that $10. |
|
 | My family members are telling me they are seeing two service fees on their bills when they NEVER had the fees before. |

| You should not see two HD technology fees. A single fee covers all outlets/boxes in the home. Is it possible they also picked up an additional outlet fee? Or one of the other new fees that have been added for DTAs etc? Comcast has added a substantial number of fees recently (and then runs a commercial accusing the phone company of nickle and dime fees for customers) -- Registered Bandwidth Offender #40812 |

wadewoodPremium join:2003-05-04 Houston, TX | reply to Bayshun1 I'm in Houston, TX market. I have just a cable card (use with a Silicon Dust Tuner) and I'm NOT charged a HD tech fee. And yes, I get all the HD channels. |

 | reply to halfband They've basically done some slight of hand to make the result the same.
It used to be you were charged an HD technology fee of $9.95 for each HD box.
Now you only have to pay 1 technology fee, but they also charge you $9.95 for each additional box.
So, they changed everything and nothing. |
