We just got the job of updating all the phone wiring. It's being gutted and new lines ran from the outside into the inside 66 blocks. Stay tuned, I'll post pictures soon!
No pictures yet but heres what we are dealing with.
We ran 60ft of conduit and run the lines through the conduit into what we thought was were the phones were wired. We were wrong..
Turns out the wiring goes into three boxs like the old thread picture shows, into the inside of the building and is spliced with bare wires right on top of a electrical panel hanging every were, then spliced into 3 phone jacks which then go into 66 blocks.
I convinced the client that it would be best to rewire EVERYTHING into a closet instead of in the ceiling for easier access. We plan to install it inside a media box in a closet behind lock and key so only authorized people have access. I'll post pictures this week of the progress.
Those open air connections are for easy upgrades...just connect new phones, no tools needed. But on the serious side it still amazes me the things that some people will do.
reply to icex Our home phone wiring used to look like that, but on a slightly smaller scale. Ripped it all out and replaced it with Cat5e and two 110 punch down blocks on each end of the house.
Almost nothing more irritating then sorting through a giant mess of low voltage wiring.
Currently working on it. Client hired us to reinsulate the building as well so it will be a week or so, I had to order more cable as well so the project is not finished yet. We are so tied up in this reinsulation project it will probaly be another 2 weeks before the phone wiring is complete, however the wiring is ran except 2 lines from outside.
