I had a folder of pictures on one computer at work. I wanted the pictures on another computer at home. These were just pictures off of a camera, not porn or anything that had been uploaded anywhere.
I didn't have a thumbdrive with me to transfer the pictures. I sent the folder into a zipped file labeled Pics.zip. It ended up being ~65 mb. That is too big for an attachment on my regular email.
I uploaded the Pics.zip file to putlocker without creating an account or anything. It gave me a link to get to my files. I copied and emailed that link to myself.
When I got home, I tried downloading the file and it tried to save as a Pics.zip.wmv file. I changed the name back to Pics.zip and saved on my desktop. I looked on my desktop and saw a Pics.zi...... I thought the rest of the name was just hidden in a smaller icon box. I looked later and the name was Pics.zip.exe.
Yes, I did double click on the Pics.zip.exe file.
My OnAccesVirusScan screamed but apparently didn't block it. It installed Putlocker Downloader. It changed my start page to something else. It changed the size of the icons on my QuickLaunch toolbar. It changed the clock in the right corner of my screen to include the name of the current day. I have been wishing for that anyway.
I think the computer at work is running Windows 7. I'm pretty sure that it has a virus program on it. My computer at home is running Windows XP. It has a McAfee virus program on it with current DAT files.
OK, slam me for using putlocker. Slam me for not paying attention to the extension on a file. Slam me for not scanning a file before clicking on it.
I scanned for further virus infections. Nothing found. I restored to yesterday. Putlocker downloader was still installed. My start page was still changed. The icons in my QuickLaunch bar still look like they are still about one size larger than I think they used to be. My clock still has the day name. Maybe that is a new feature that Microsoft updated for me.

How do I change QuickLaunch bar icon sizes?
What can I use to safely transfer files from one location to another? |

Why Putlocker instead of Dropbox or Google, for example? Or if you simply want to email the attachment to yourself use a service like YouSendIt. But if you're going to use a cloud service you will need to install their sync software. It seems that somehow that's what you've done. -- Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness. . . Isa. 5:20 |

That should not happen using a simple file upload/download service. -- The Alien in the White House
