Re: VMedia Launches

Sorry but I am not sure how you come to that conclusion. On Basic you would be missing Treehouse, W Network and NFL Network, and Sportsnet, but you would be getting TSN and TSN2, and Much and MuchMore Music. Oh yes, and you would be paying nearly 40% less. In other words you would have $15 to spend on things more to your liking elsewhere among our selections.Unless Fireplace Channel, the Sunset Channel and the Aquarium Channel are important to you...those are irreplaceable, I admit.

No argument there. The whole premise of our business is that people don't want to spend upwards of $70 for a pre-selected package when they can use that money on channels they want to want. We are trying to provide ways for people to reduce and if not reduce better target their expenditures. The fault may lie with us that we have not made those savings more obvious in our website, we will take another look, but dollar for dollar we beat the mid-range Rogers and Bell offerings.

you know, I've read that Ontario has those channels. I've never seen it here.

That is funny stuff. Who in their right mind gets these channels? Or even watches it?

For us on Rogers to get the same channels that we enjoy on the VIP package, we have to add almost $40 dollars worth of theme packs in addition to the premium basic. Also, because your service is essentially delivered OTT, we would have to also subscribe to higher internet tiers to ensure we are enjoying the same internet speeds while we're watching TV.

Rogers used to sell DVDs with the fireplace loop in their retail stores during the holiday season. It was actually one of the fastest moving items, and the struggled to keep pace with demand.

When you combine our internet prices with our TV prices, we have enough savings for you to get a higher tier if you needed it. But since we only use 2Mgs, pretty much any Rogers service you get will leave you enough left over to do exactly what you want on the internet.

Vidéotron offers TMN for 16$ : »www.videotron.com/reside ··· -and-hbo
Bell Fibe offers TMN+MEncore for 15$ : »fibetv.bell.ca/global/re ··· 20130212

You offer TMN alone for 18$, MEncore alone for 8$ (WHAT?), and TMN+MEncore for 20$.

Even worse, Rogers offers TMN/HBO alone for 17$
»www.ordertmn.ca/50off
Shouldn't you be offering TMN/HBO for 16$ instead ?

There's just 1$ of difference between Rogers TMN+MEncore (21$) and Vmedia's (20$).

Yeah, I was just about to say the same thing, no way that's HD! Even h264 would be hard pressed for that bitrate

2 Mbps... that's the equivalent to 4.5 Mbps of MPEG-2, which is close to what Videotron uses for their SD channels (~3.9 Mbps)

I'm going to assume that 2 Mbps is for VMedia's standard-def channels. It's a good bitrate for that. But there's no way that could be their HD bitrate.

Even with h.265, 2Mbps would be enough for at most basic 720p, and even then the quality would be lower than Netflix' 720p tier (which has a higher equivalent bitrate), and there isn't any hardware on the market that can do h.265 yet.

I didn't notice marital aid stations available on Vmedia...

But maybe they have a youporn app for that!

They don't have an option in that. That is CRTC mandated in order to be able to offer IPTV. Either through Vmedia, or a partner.

In theory, the IISPs they peer with could offer a speed tier that is enough for x number of STBs to run concurrently but includess no data usage what so ever, only the IPTV traffic.

No. Some ISP's have a peering agreement. So if you wanted it, and TSI has the agreement, then yeah you can get it w/o their internet.

At least, this is how I understand it.

I didn't notice any time shifted stations. West coast Canadian and US networks would be nice to have since there's apparently no PVR capability in the 'box'. Is this correct? Any possibility of west feeds in the future?

Oh, congratulations and best of luck on your product launch.

Hi

We get our DSL directly from Bell, and we get cable through another ISP, CIKTel. WE do look forward to our own TPIA deal soon with Rogers. And yes, Alexei and I were just talking about offering higher speeds. We will look into it.Right now we were focused on killer comparables, matching our Basic + internet with similar offers which show compelling value on our side, so for example Bell's Basic plus 6Mbps service clocks in at over $80 on a recurring basis, with contract, while you get something similar from VMedia for under $60, plus no contracts and no limits. But I take your point.

But, you can get Rogers or Videotron Digital Cable and go with TPIA or AGAS based internet services with any numbre of the IISPs in Ontario or Quebec. The savings via cheaper internet is a moot point, you can get them with IPTV or good ol' digital cable.

But you just launched your product, so I will keep watching to see you folks improve. The basic is pretty nice deal, the add on packs, depending on which channel one would want, can increase the bill to be the same or more expensive than your competitors'. Any ETA how the package where you get to choose specific channels?

Kudos on the launch, more choice can't hurt the market.

George Burger, I'd also like to know the details of your hd bitrate.

Also, what version of Android does your box run?

I'll be moving this June and plan on ditching bell homephone/fibe for a voip/more a-la-cart offering to lower my monthly expenses.

I am very interested about your service, but find the website information very limited. Also, my chat request was never answered at 9:10pm EST.

thanks.

I am quite Enthused at the packages i am seeing, I like the Deal for premium basic for me it offers all the channels i want for 40 bucks which is the same as a basic package from bell or rogers.. I get Space, AMC, Showcase, TCM and networks Tsn Sportsnet etc.. Not to much fluff In a way i miss Hgtv and Spike but i was looking i could almost build a perfect package for myself with the basic 3 themepacks for about $45 bucks And then when the season for getting hbo hits Call in for it for a few months of Game of thrones and trueblood, if i so wished. and 46.95 for unlimited 35/3? Pretty sweet there though i would Prefer 150/10 P:)

If you're using CIKTel, does that mean that you have the ability to offer services on the Cogeco network as well as Rogers?

I do see some of the value in what your offering in the basic package. Have it all in the death star no real choice basic package at I think at 33.95 now (ludicrous) considering I don't get tsn in hd for that or tsn2 (at all). But I also see that others have a desire for super skinny package as well.

That being said my big issue is no access in cogeco land other than one fairly unknown provider

So what's the difference between this and my standard Rogers TV that I pay only $20 (Fairchild) for a $80 TV subscription?

Looks interesting, I think a another hurdle when you do come to Quebec is that Videotron and Bell offer a la carte channels. We escaped the "bundled channel" trap (i.e I want RDS I have to take 6 other channels with it) and do not want to go back :P
