[StraightTalk] Nothing Straight about StraightTalk

Well, call it a rant, but why do all these big companies invest in having a "Twitter" support team, but all these people can do is tell you to send them an email, without addressing any of your questions.

I don't want to be sending an email; I wouldn't be using twitter if I wanted to send them an email. Why do I even have to be sending them tweets to determine where to find their coverage map in the first place?

You click on Support, Service Area Map, on »www.straighttalk.com, and it asks you for a ZIP-Code. When you provide a ZIP-Code, it shows you lots of crappy phones, instead of any kind of service area. (Yeap, no option to select a SIM card, or an iPhone, or a Nexus.)

When you search for their coverage, you can find »www.straighttalksim.com/coverage.php, but there's no data on what kind of coverage it is. I'm only interested in GSM and UMTS data coverage, with a single SIM.

Basically, why is it so difficult for StraightTalk to answer a Straight question: do their unlimited data plans with AT&T/T-Mo SIM cards include unlimited data roaming on Union Telephone in Wyoming, and VIAERO in Colorado / Kansas / Nebraska, and other similar carriers in other states? And between T-Mo and AT&T, too?

Come on, is there any straighter question than that? Nationwide data roaming. Yes or no?

No. Expect to get only non-roaming data on Tracfone subsidiaries, and if you get more, consider it a pleasant surprise.

I thought people said you get more roaming with Straight Talk than with prepaid plans of the actual carriers?

What's their roaming arrangements? Voice only?

Look at the providers prepaid coverage map for the service you are getting. I know that my daughters straight talk is t-mobile and there is no roaming.

»www.straighttalksim.com/coverage.php, notice that it's a web-site for "SIM", which can only be T-Mo or AT&T with StraightTalk. The map lists I-80 in Wyoming as fully covered. Which leads one to two conclusions: either their map is blatantly false, or they do offer some kind of roaming on Union Telephone's EDGE network (Union is the only provider on GSM/UMTS in WY across all of I-80; Union Tel runs an EDGE network).

So, basically, no offence, but you most likely have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

I have seen reports of voice roaming; I have not experienced it myself.

No data roaming reported.

I agree with you that the web site is terrible and I do not trust what I am told over the phone. How can you get information you can trust?

What did I not know? That the straight talk T-Mobile sim doesn't roam or to go to »www.wireless.att.com/coveragevie···pe=voice or »www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx/ and see what their coverage is for prepaid is. Try zip code 69101 on their website and see what you get.

You can't trust anything to do with their maps. It isn't a coverage area map for a particular carrier but a Service Activation map and in the OP's case is the fact that Verizon has native coverage in the area so you can activate a CDMA straighttalk phone in the area.

No roaming on prepaid.

Straight Talk/Net10 is a mvno and with phones on every major carrier just pick the carrier that has the best coverage/network in your area.

If you want roaming then you need post paid service from att or verizon botom line.

My Galaxy Note on ST is unlimited talk, unlimited data, unlimited text($47 month). The coverage is all but 100% in my tri state area. The coverage map is whatever the ATT map shows since the service is 100% ATT.

Exactly. When using the now discounted att sim, u get 100% native post paid att coverage including roaming. The Verizon side does not roam, but I'm not sure about tmobile...which usually doesn't have service anywhere. Now, reports are that there's no data roaming with ST att...but I remember reading in the TOS that they have the right to throttle or suspend service if you are data roaming for 3 consecutive billing periods...so...
