[Parts Check] WD my passport transfer rate

I am getting only around 70MB/s in transfer speed rate with WD My Passport. I am wondering if it is normal speed rate for the WD My Passport or not.

Given that you have provided no specific details on how it is being used or on what kind of hardware, etc., I'd say that ~70MB is about right for USB 2.0.

Ok, are you sure it's plugged into one of the 2 USB 3.0 ports (with the blue colored) orientation guide, instead of one of the 4 USB 2.0 sockets?

%100 positive. What i am thinking of is that the cable that comes with the drive is not USB 3.0 cable as it is black in color.

Depending upon the revision of your My Passport, some early models were slower due to WD switching from USB 3.0 bridges to hardwired USB 3.0 interface on the drive itself to slim them down. Speeds of these vary greatly, my mum bought one for Acronis duty and it ran slower than a 500GB version.

If you're getting 70MB/s that is the lowest possible speed of USB 3.0... that is my typical speed with an ExpressCard with sustained writes on a 750GB WD Passport(portable-early 2011 version), reading it clocks closer to 130MB/s. On a recent 500GB WD Passport it clocks 100MB/s writes.

With USB 2.0 you'll average 30-35MB/s.

Thanks for the good answer. I have an older revision.

I have forgotten that WD my passport has a laptop drive (5400rpm) inside meaning 70MB/s to be expected.
