| [Equipment] TiVo Launches TiVo Mini »pr.tivo.com/press-releases/tivo-···o-994989
These Tivo Mini seems to be a direct replacement for "TiVo Preview" which RCN rents for $9.95/mo. The advantages seem to be the much smaller size and the fact that you can program your primary Tivo Quad from the auxiliary device.
I miss two features if I am watching TV from the secondary room. The first is PAUSE, and the second is RECORD. If I am watching a show that I want to see the next day because I am falling asleep, I like to record it for the next day.
I wonder if RCN is going to add these devices to their equipment line up? |

shadyman777The Hero of TimePremium join:2009-03-02 Allentown, PA | reply to Pacomartin I'd be all for this mini to replace my preview. The current preview is halfway off the shelf in my bedroom as it was too big for my setup. A mini would solve it. |

Right now there are 4 pieces of equipment on the RCN website 1) TiVo Whole Home Bundle $29.95/mo 2) TiVo Premiere Quad $24.95/mo 3) TiVo Premiere $12.95/mo 4) TiVo Preview $9.95/mo
I am talking about #4 which cannot pause or record live TV. It can only play the shows recorded on product #1. It was announced on Jun 13, 2011.
You cannot pause or record with the "Preview", you get a warning message from pause that says "not functional with live TV".

As far as I know the "preview" was never a retail product. The Tivo "mini" seems to be a retail replacement for the "preview" except you can record shows on the hard disk on the Quad. So you have more functionality in a smaller box. |

It's not clear if the Tivo mini has a place for a cable card. Does this mean that you can't get VOD? |

The main difference between the Preview and the Mini, is that the Preview has a cablecard and its own tuner. You can in fact initiate recordings from the Preview, as long as you have a free tuner on your Premiere Q. After starting the recording, you gain pause/ff/rewind functionality for that program on the Preview. |

We had water in the basement, and I rewired the system to move stuff to a different floor. I wonder if I messed it up?
My coax comes in from outside an runs through the filter. Then it is split off multiple directions to Tivo Quad, Tivo Preview, and Finally onto a separate coax that leads to Moca Bridge, then to Arris Modem, and is interconnected to a router via ethernet. There is no ethernet to Tivo Quad or Tivo Preview.
Do I need to run ethernet from Tivo Quad to Tivo Preview? |

Do I need to run ethernet from Tivo Quad to Tivo Preview? You shouldn't need to run Ethernet from the Quad to the Preview. If the MoCA bridge is working correctly, the coax should take care of the connection between the two TiVo boxes. You do have your MoCA bridge connected directly to your router with a LAN cable as well, right? Hopefully someone who is more familiar with the MoCA bridge can help you better than me. |

Yes, the bridge is connected directly to your router with a LAN cable. I think what confused me is that one of the RCN guys posted the following image, which doesn't look anything like the configuration installed by the RCN tech.
