odd router problem

This has nothing to to with Brighthouse equipment. I Just thought I
would post here since there are knowledgeable people in this forum.

I have a dlink dir-615 router,. The issue is with a nook tablet and
an HP laptop. the nook randomly cause the router wireless to stop, or lockup the router completely. The HP laptop only locks up the router when the laptop is powered off.
Other wireless device in the house do not cause this. On the HP lap top my wife uses for work has a VPN connection and seems to be related to that as it only seems to happen is she uses the VPN on it. Has any one else seen a problem like this? If so was there any remedy other than replacing the router? I have tried various configuration setting in the router to no avail.

No Offense but your dir-615 router is out dated. I suggest you get a new wireless router that can keep up with today's networking demands. I highly suggest the ASUS RT-N56U or if you have the money Get the high performance ASUS RT-N66U.

, yeah I know its outdated but it has served me well over the years . I don't really have demanding needs for networking but that Asus sure looks cool. Although Im not a big fan of internal antennas. I will probably have to upgrade since Im wanting to go to turbo. I think the dlink would probably implode trying to keep up with that speed. Right now I have 10/1 and the dlink seems to work well at that speed. If it weren't for the nook and the laptop I would be happy with it.
whats the price range for the N66U ? I like the triple external ant.

I was just looking at the spec on the N66U, looks like it has some power to it. That should drown out the pesky neighbors routers

Do you have latest firmware for this device? It's old but there may be a firmware update that you missed.

Another thing to check is make sure the laptops have the latest wireless drivers.

But, realistically I think the router has just seen better days. I used to be a big D-Link router fan. I ran them and recommended them for everyone I knew who came to me for help on this kind of stuff. I've seen a fair share of them come to their end, and they just start getting flaky in most cases as opposed to ceasing to function outright.

I think Its hopeless for a driver on the nook. Ive stopped using it. Went out and got a cheap 90$ tablet that's running ice cream sandwich and its worked flawlessly. As for the laptop, I don't think
the IT dept at my wife's work would like anyone messing with drivers on the company laptop . It works fine at her office.

You said you tried various settings already otherwise I would suggest that. Things like disabling the firewall and any special VPN settings just to troubleshoot. If you are to the point where you are about to give up and want to avoid buying another router then it might be worth a try to see about putting dd-wrt on it. »www.dd-wrt.com/ It's possible that it might work better (or worse) on it. Of course if it's a hardware issue or the router is say overheating, etc. this won't help. If you try dd-wrt visit the forum and read around for a bit first.
