 | [Equipment] CableCARD pairing Hi all,
I recently acquired CableCARD from my local Insight office. I'm trying to get the card paired with my Ceton InfiniTV 4 PCIe card, with no success.
The staff at Insight forgot to add the card to my account the first time, so it did not show up "in inventory". I went back to the office, and exchanged the card. The only thing left to do was pair the card.
When I called Insight customer service, the only thing the rep could do was confirm that the card had been added to my account by it's serial number. She didn't know anything about the pairing process.
The second time I called, I told the IVR (phone menu) "add new service", rather than "activate equipment". This apparently sent me to the right department, as that rep understood what I was saying. She asked for my "Data ID", and "Host ID", which I provided from the Ceton CableCARD pairing page. She said that she was able to successfully pair the device. The card claimed it was still not paired. I'm using the latest drivers and firmware. I've removed and reinserted the card.
What else can I try? |

The first time we spent 30 minutes on the phone with no success, the second time I spoke to someone else who noticed rather quickly that the previous rep didn't even enter one of the pieces of information (despite the fact we reviewed all of it multiple times).
I could be wrong but I believe there are three numbers they need to have. After that mine paired and has worked like a charm since. Good luck!
Edit: Just went to have a look at mine, in the Ceton Diagnostic Tool, on the CableCARD tab, there are three pieces of information, the card ID, the host ID and the data ID, make sure they're entering all of them correctly, and it probably wouldn't hurt to verify they put the card's serial number in correctly as well. IIRC the data ID was the one the first rep missed with me. |

 | I'm using Linux, so I can't use any of Ceton's diagnostic tools.
I was able to contact an Insight CSR who validated all of the information needed for pairing. It still isn't activated. A tech is scheduled for Monday. I'm hoping it's just a bad CableCARD. |

 | reply to seanthegeek If I recall correctly...
You need Windows Media Center in order to view channels flagged as "copy once" or "copy never", which Insight sets almost all channels to "copy once". You will only be able to watch unencrypted channels (mainly locals or anything that is available OTA). You need to install PlayReady in order to view encrypted channels, and PlayReady is currently only available for Windows.
I have a CableCARD with a Ceton InfiniTV4 PCIe and it's working perfectly under Windows 7 Pro using WMC.
When I originally picked up my CableCARD a while back I was given a printout with instructions on how to activate the card. The number to call in the printout is 866-440-1024. Not sure if it still applies now or not. |

Good luck! I hope everything works out. |

I was not aware of the copy restrictions in use on digital cable. Based on the above, I've switched to Windows Media Center on 64 bit Windows 7. That's a real shame because I loose all the awesome features of MythTV:
- Automatic commercial skipping in recordings - Cross-platform frontends - Management via web interfaces - Placeshifting (Look ma, no Slingbox!) - Archive recordings to DVD and/or NAS
I had all of the features of "The Hopper" and then some before digital TV of any kind was common. I'd like to do the same thing with the same basic channels in HD, but Insight/TWC has made this impossible for non-local channels, even though am using their legal equipment. /rant
Interestingly, The Ceton diagnostic tool for Windows found a later version of firmware than what is available for direct download on their website. I'd recommend any Ceton user to keep a dual-boot install of Windows, just in case you need it.

Not sure if it still applies now or not. That phone number is still Insight's direct CableCARD activation line. It's a handy number to have. When an Insight rep tried to transfer me to that earlier, she sent me to TWC's cable card line. Of course, I'm not a TWC customer yet, so they couldn't help me.
By this point, I'm confirmed all of the pairing data at least five times. I'm convinced the CableCARD is faulty. Unfortunately, the Ceton card won't even allow you to watch QAM without an active CableCARD |
