bobmay join:2001-08-08 Trenton, NJ | [OOL] Netgear router How secure are these routers when all I can do is change the password that comes with the router. I tried to enter a 63 character password and it did not work. Are the passwords limited to just 8 characters? |

There is absolutely nothing in your router that is worth protecting with such a long password. And there's a huge range between 8 and 63 characters...have you tried anything in between? -- [Sig removed by Administrator: signature can not exceed 20GB] |

 | reply to bobmay Are you talking a out the password to hook equipment up to the router. If so, the WPA setting would certainly allow you more than 8 figures. Or, are you just talking about the sign-on password to get to the router settings?
Two very different things. |

 | reply to bobmay Is your router currently only using WEP? |

bobmay join:2001-08-08 Trenton, NJ | reply to bobmay I'm unable to access this router, The only thing I can use is a program from CV called Digido. This program only allows you to change the SSID and the password that came with the router.
Every router I've ever had I was able to access it and configure the WPA with the password I want. Strange |

Strange you should be able to access the routers internal page and adjust the settings » 192.168.1.1the login is admin/optimum I was confused when my sister got an OOL install and got this router. I was resetting the router and couldn't log in with the usual default passwords but then I looked at the bottom of the router and cabletecht is correct. Once you log in with the default then you can change it to whatever you want. |

»192.168.1.1 Does this actually bring you to the internal page or does it forward you to optimums online router management? It depends on the routers firmware. Currently he has the old firmware since he was using the Digido software, so »192.168.1.1 takes him into the routers internal page. |

bobmay join:2001-08-08 Trenton, NJ | reply to bobmay So what if you needed to say, port forward something? You would call CV and they would do for you?? |

When you get the new firmware they very well can do it for you, but you will also have control of it via optimum.net while losing access to the internal page. |
