 | Changing Mac address of ADSL modem Hello all ! i have a Atrie db108 (similar to dareglobal db108) ADSL modem. My isp binds all broadband accounts to mac addresses. ( Btw it is WAN mac adress to be precise ) Mac address that was came with my router was bind with my account ( I.e First time authentication with ISP pppoe server through wan mac)
i have found that new routers have MAC cloning feature unfortunetly my ISP don't have any modem other than db108 ( with and without WLAN , yes 2 models only no tp link and other stuff ! ) i have without WLAN since i already have a NETGEAR modem which is far better than that crappy ISP one. i coudn't even buy new modem since my account is restricted to that one !
i tried telnet but i am quite confused on how to use it. i don't know much about it. AFAIK it has BUSYBox v1.0 where sh comes.
i tried this »wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MAC···Spoofing but failed ! [ i just can't go further than this command >> ( # ip link set dev eth0 down ) it won't show # afters and modem also stops blinking ] please help me guys ! Thank you ! |

Do you want to use another dsl modem, and make the new dsl modem match the mac address of the old dsl modem?
From the other thread I have gathered you have:
a Atrie db108 ADSL modem a netgear N300 class router (model unknown) |

The netgear you mention, is it a modem or a router? Are you trying to make it match the mac address of a PC on your lan? Yes ! but data link won't light up ! |

With your old setup... do you have the old modem in bridge mode, with the Netgear router doing the PPPoE authentication?
Or do you have the old modem doing the PPPoE authentication, and the netgear plugged into it (basically double NAT, or 2 routers in a row)?
What is the make and model of the new dsl modem? |

What is the make and model of the new dsl modem? Hey, Thanks for reply. Yes it is PPPoE mode and My N-300 is used as WiFi only.
btw the 'new modem ' is not really new. i got it from neighbourer for free . There is BSNl ( another ISP in our country) written on the bottom and Dataone in right lower corner and i think UT300ur is model name which is written on the top left. it is a ADSL+2 modem. Now what i am trying to do is : > Wide area network > EDIT> Then i am filling up all the stuff like username and password and vpi/vci etc > Save reboot. But it won't showing Failing at Test assigned IP and Test ISP authentication. Rest of all is good. and yea one Light is missing Which is DATA like POWER.LINK.DATA.PC.
If all went all , i am going to Hook it up to my Uncle resisdence where my current modem is working fine with a new splitter. #sorry for the mesh in the post Thanks for the help ! |

Rest of all is good. sounds like the username/password are incorrect! i rechecked it . They are correct ! Even i did a reset on my atrie modem and did exacty what i did with my BSNL one. Still nothing. I noticed something that when i refresh continuously on my "BSNL" modem sometimes TEST Authentication with ISP : PASS but i never saw happen it to Test the assigned IP address. What i am missing ? That mac garbage ? |

dib22 join:2002-01-27 Kansas City, MO kudos:2 | It's possible I guess... have you tried disconnecting the current modem for an hour or two then tried the new one? I wonder if they release the mac lock (assuming there is one) after a set amount of time?
I wonder if the other modem is modifying the username/password... |

I find that makes a difference sometimes, especially on laptops. |

I think Mac is fixed cause it always stay the same . Anyway i gonna take a break for 45minutes and we will see ! |

| reply to chairmansaab Welcome to BBR.
You should also check the ATM settings (VPI/VCI) match the old modem and also the type of encapsulation.
Even if the MAC is being rejected you should be getting DSL sync. Do you know if the modem is even getting that far?

/tom Hey, Thanks. Yup, i rechecked all settings. VPI/VCI is same 1/32. Also i am running PPPOE over ethernet not ATM or MER. and yeah i am getting DSL sync(Yellow light) stable but i am unable to get dynamic pubic ip address from my ISP. i google around the web i am now sure it is MAC address which is holding me back. |

I use these alot when dealing with PPPoA setups, but one thing I noticed about them is they do have a feature that lets you change the mac address on the wan. |

Hmm, none of draytek's products is available in india. I am gonna move to a new ISP in a month (i haven't change my isp for past 7 years)and my new isp doesn't provide free modems. so i have to buy purchase new one seperately. i am considering a new wifi router with built-in adsl2 modem. So i could use my current Netgear n-300 as a repeater.
Btw, is it really that hard to change modem mac address ? i saw lot of posts online users changing their mac addresses using these commands
ifconfig br0 down hw ether Aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff:ee
or
ip link set br0 address aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff:ee
None of these commands are work properly on my modem. Telnet just hangs when i put ifconfig br0 or eth0 down ! i have also noticed that my modem lights stopped blinking once i do the same. ? # oh i just noticed that you are living in kansas city. Have you got Google fiber 1Gbps connection ? |

Yes you are telling the interface to which you are connected to turn off "ifconfig down"... and yes its not trivial to change the mac address of hardware unless it has that feature designed in.
I don't have it yet (google fiber) but as soon as it reaches me I'm gonna get it |
