Most areas have local ABC, CBS, even FOX affiliates, many of them would have no problems taking the money. [The irony is, that those same ads Charter refused to allow, would end up on Charter- by way of that station being on the cable line-up. ]
The main reason why companies like Antennas Direct want to advertise on Charter cable (channels) is because it costs a lot less to advertise on cable channels thru the local cable co, vs (full-power) OTA stations...while still reaching a large portion of the local TV watchers...

Buying ad time on an OTA would be cost prohibitive but getting a spot on cable is within their budget. Reminds me of the story of the scorpion hitching a ride across the river on the frog's back. Hmmm.
