Just my two cents about ads, ota, cable and satellite

I switched to satellite 20 years ago to get away from ads.
When DVR's came out, I got myself setup with Tivo in 2000 to get away from more ads. Then they started with the "crawls", "bugs" and popup ads during the shows.

Well, I am happily TV-free now for 2 years, and I will never watch another TV show again as long as I live.

I would have happily continued to give them $70 a month for decades more, but no, there is no entertainment in watching some cheap animated characters dance around on top of the show I am attempting to watch, so... "Entertainment industry": you can stick it where the sun don't shine.

And I put entertainment industry in quotes because that's a joke. It's the "advertising industry" in realty.

Yep. I've said it before: shows are just the filler for the time between commercials. And the truly sad fact: whether you buy the particular products being advertised or not, your money is being used to pay for the commercials (the cost of the ads is built-in to the price of everything you buy)--so it's not possible to actually "steal" anything that appears on "TV" anywhere (you're just getting your money's worth... so torrent away! ).

However, there are still shows worth watching now and again--just wait for them on DVD or Netflix or Amazon Prime or wherever. There aren't all that many... but there are some.

I avoid paying that tax somewhat by buying "store brand" whenever that alternative is available.
