BYOD Plan: Can you start and stop without penalty?

Hello,

So if I sign up for the BYOD plan it costs me $50 + $70 / month.

It looks like they have calendar month billing and they don't give refunds so assuming I start say April 1st, it costs me $120. Then I notfy them April 25th to stop the service at the end of the month.

Then June 1st I request them to enable the service again. What to I pay June 1st? Specifically do I have to pay the $50 sign up again?

Thanks!

OK, I chatted with a friendly "Loren". I guess with the BYOD plan anytime you stop, when you go to start it again you play the activation charge.

So, if you needed it occasionally but only up to a month you're looking at a charge of around $120 for the month.

that doesn't sound right for restarting the service ... miscommunication somewhere

Actually, it is correct. Always request however, to have the service cancelled at the end of the month since you've paid for it.

Then at midnight or so, it's cancelled.

The only plan you don't have to pay the activation fee on is the Advanced (no longer available for new customers) and/or Hotspot plan (Need to verify) only when you place it on "vacation" which is up to 3 months only and only once a year. Otherwise, everyone pays the activation each time it's restarted.

The BYOD plan is ALWAYS charged activation plus the monthly service (prorated if started past the first of the month) which kind of makes sense due to it not being their assigned device.

The Official Response:

BYOD accounts are always $49.99 for activation (the only exception is when they are adding a BYOD while currently active with another account, then it is $19.99). Any account activated from a device that was originally from Millenicom is $19.99 and isn't a BYOD, even if whomever is activating it wasn't the person who originally purchased it.

Well said and to perfection I might add....

but Grants is correct in the fact it will cost the 120.00 for only one month to reactivate.

49.99 activation + 69.99 monthly service that is assuming you activate at the beginning of that month.
