can't surf to 3 sites

Hi all, - First off, my ISP is my town's electric utility and is fiber to the home, 20/20 meg acct. Came across a minor inconvenience in that I can not surf or resolve on three websites that I know of. The sites are up and accessible on other systems - I've tested the same machine on ATT wifi and on Charter cable and wifi and it will access the sites, but my ISP times out. I made my carrier aware of the problem 6 weeks or so ago. In fact they sent a tech out to my house and got the same results on their machine directly hooked to their cable, no router in between. To complicate things, their office can access the sites fine from their signal at their office. Sights are picture.vzw.com ( I don't have a smart phone so have to access sent pictures online ), www.videobash.com and stileproject.com ( may be NSFW ). Same timeout result on Firefox, Chrome, and IE8. Any suggestions that might be passed on for resolution / problem fixing. Thanks

Have you tried a different dns? Trying 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 will help to show that it's an issue with your isp's dns.

tmpchaos, yep - my setup is with Google's numbers, but also tried the ISP's, and OpenDNS. But that reminds me to try, what was it, 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.2 ? thanks, Harris

just tried 1.1.1.1 and a couple of other 1.1. combinations - nothing connected at all.

OpenDNS is the bestest

208.67.222.222

and

208.67.220.220

did u check your hosts file also?

and, if you have fiber, has your ONT been reset?

both opendns and hosts file have been tried early on when I discovered the problem. Is ONT something that my ISP has to check at the box where the fiber comes into the house or is it something they can check at their center.

Rob, thanks for the 4.2.2.1 - also didn't change anything. Maybe your numbers were what I was trying to think of when I used the non surfing 1.1.1.1

This all implies that it's likely something in the modem. What does a traceroute show, both by name and IP?

The ONT is where the fiber splits into ethernet, usually mounted on the outside of the house, but could be inside.

I have fios, they use a 12x12 plastic hinged box that takes the fiber and converts it to ethernet and coax for tv. It is powered by a power supply with backup located inside the house. To reset the ONT, power must be removed from the wall, and from the battery backup. I reset my ONT about twice a year.
