 | [Speed] (Slow Speeds) NY Metropolitan - Rego Park area for over a week speeds from 25MB service are below 6MB on low usage time and around 2MB on high usage times.
Ping also suffers, few days ago I had 600 ping with 50% pocket loss.
Wondering what kind of issues RCN is having. RCN support said they will look into it internally, but I don't see any improvement. Seems recent posts on the forum from neighbrood areas indicate similar issues. |

 | Today I'm getting 2.5 MB per RCN speed test. Ping is bad, with occasional pocket loss. Windows update is downloading at 15-40 kilobytes per second.
Will be making another call to RCN, been about 5 days since my last call but connection only been getting worse. |

internet went back about after about 3 hours, speed test from rcn tech was at about 2.7MB. First test i ran is attached, speed got better though to 2.5mb, no where near 25mb.
Also having pocket loss again. Ping to cnn & yahoo over 600ms. To google is 30-40ms.
Just spent 40 minutes with tech support, they couldn't even find the ticket that was submitted 3 hours ago.

 | a little update.
Tech visited my home today, replaced modem. Found no issues in my apartment. Speed in the morning was actually close to advertised.
Right now its at 40% of advertised 25 mbit speed. 25/5 is my package. Typically it's been dropping to even less, and probably will drop again soon, speed from 2 weeks ago where much worse though.
Just an example, when speeds are good I'm able to watch youtube hd videos, when it drops below 8mbit, it constantly lags. Eventhough 8mbit is good enough for hd video, but in practice it just lags. It's a possibility RCN slows down speeds to certain services during network overload to help with the load, but no proof.
Obviously issues on RCN end, too bad they don't admit it. They say they guarantee 60% of advertised speed at any time, which should be 15mb, that I'd be happy with. |
