Anatol join:2013-03-30 Vero Beach, FL 1 edit | [Wi-Fi] Hardware for Zoom 5341J For my Comcast cable internet I just got Zoom 5341J. This modem is for my PC which does not have wi-fi capabilities. I want to set up wi-fi for my apartment using this modem and without adding wi-fi capabilities to my PC. Can I do it, how, and do I need a router? I read about Medialink Wireless N Broadband Router-150Mbps-2.4GHz-802.11n w/Internal Antenna - which seems to be compatible with Zoom modem and has very good reviews from users. Also supposedly works very well with other modems. Other suggestions for router if I need one? My other computer is MacBookAir and it has wi-fi capabilities. I am hoping, now that my PC is up and running with cable internet, to be able to create wi-fi account using my Mac ? I assume I would have to connect my MAC to Zoom modem to create wi-fi account? I would than reconnect Zoom back to my PC. Can I and how to begin? Appreciate any help and suggestions. |
 | Just get a router. I find decent routers routinely at thrift stores, garage sales, and pawn shops for $5. Get a router. If you have the cash, buy a new one. Research before you buy one, but get a router. Ok, if I'm reading correctly, you *might* have a router by now. Research how routers work, cause your missing the forest for the trees. Mac book is a wireless client of a router, there is no account. The router can connect via an ethernet cable to your PC. The router gets an IP address from the modem, and using NAT gives IP adresses to your PC and Mac. Go to wikipedia (or here) read about "NAT", "routers", "Wifi", & "modems". Have a great day. You're welcome. -- ✁............................................... J Taylor :: Principal : Taylored Consulting ✎ : @JMilesTaylor : ☎ : lmgtyu: Σ :about.me/jmilestaylor : |
