[HN9000] Hughes satellite name?

HN9000] Hughes satellite name?

I would have thought, that this would be a simple question to answer, but i'm finding that searching web, hasn't helped. I need to know the name of the satellite i'm using, not GEN4, for reference, to check alignment of my dish.I just installed an OPI program on my lap top, and wish to check signal strength, as i believe dish has moved. My sat options are many for my zip code, but none are Hughes specific.

These are my sat choices:

If you are on a 9000 modem, there is only one bird you can be on.
Spaceway3 located at 95' W.

WOW! That was fast Gwalk, and thanks. My question would be then, if it's not on the list, does it matter?

And your just looking to find your present signal strength ?
I'm on a 7000 modem myself so the addresses will be diff.
are you aware of the modems "display page"

open a browser and in the address line enter:

192.168.0.1

that should take you to the modems main page.
there is an advanced area but the links I could provide would not be relevant to your 9000 system.
Be advised there is a world of difference between KU and KA systems in aiming the dish.

There are others on here that have 9000 systems and give you more detailed info.
However 1st things 1st verify what type of system you have.

Yes, just signal strength. I think it's supposed to be 160+, but not positive. Thanks, will try that IP

Another thought just came to me. If i hook lap top up to modem, enter Hughes IP, then my zip, and then hit "AUTO" button in OPI program, maybe it will zero in that sat automatically?

if your using a 9000 modem, then yes, as gwalk said you are on spaceway 3 located at 95w. which in cuba ny is roughly 215+/- sw azimuth and 39+/- elevation.

installing the opi program on your computer......fyi, i wouldnt recommend putting the modem into repoint mode, and then adjusting the dish. the ONLY way to get the modem out of repoint mode is with the use of a DAPT (small meter techs have) once in repoint mode, the modem will erase 6 different signal measurements. the only way to replace the signal measurements is by using the dapt and a squinter (another tool techs have).

your signal i would imagine down there, should be roughly 150-180. i know thats a large spread, but signal strength itself will vary geographically. i know up by me, a 9000 modem wont get much over 170, rochester is a little higher, watertown it gets a little lower. it basically depends on where you are in relation to the center of the beam.

Your signal stength is going to very all over the place depending on a number of factors, starting with but not limited to weather.

I really would leave the OPI program out of the equation until you have gathered more info.
The 9000 modems require more equipment that the 6000/7000 modems did.
There is just more involved.
You said you think your dish has moved. What type of issues are you having to make you think so ?
Are you aware that Hughesnet is having "many issues" across the board..7000, 9000 & Gen4. In fact they are about to have a customer riot on their hands

I really would caution you against trying any kind of adjustments on your dish at this time.
There are a number of thing to be done first.
The IP that I gave you is for the modems "internal home page " for lack of a better term. That will lead to the modems advanced pages that contain a wealth of information.

You haven't stated your problem but many issues have workarounds of which you may not be aware.

Thanks A, info helpful. I wasn't going to try anything drastic, just hand tilt the dish, if i get in signal, and see if it gets better/worse, then make slight adjustment, by loosening nuts, moving, then re-tightening........after first marking original settings...lol

I get good LOS, so no obstacles, but installer put dish on side of shed, and i've had 2.......yes 2............floods since installation, so i'm thinking settling/raising maybe?

And i agree G, this set up sucks, and am seriously thinking about going with Exede. Customer service is a major joke, and i'm not just speaking about the inability for them to speak fluent English

Well, how about "connection timed out", "server can not be found", etc., etc., etc. Just did that now, when i tried entering IP It has been doing this constantly for at least 2-3 months. I have major upgrades on my lap top, and new router. Everything was working normal...........well, as normal as Hughes can get.........until, as i said, 2-3 months ago. Could it be a major shafting from Hughes, just to try and make us upgrade to Gen4?

You still havent said the type of problems you are having.
Example, signal strength by itself has no effect on speed, with the exception of re-transmission errors.
That info can be found in the modems internal display pages that you seem reluctant to view.
Also enable/disable turbo page...been a lot of issues since day one on that...but within your ability to control.

You must have missed last post on my attempt to go there G. It keeps timing out. It WON'T let me go there. That is the MAJOR prob, for any site. It's amazing me, that i'm still connecting to THIS site

I'm now getting "connection reset" on this site now. Don't know how much longer it'll let me stay on. If TURBO page is on the site you're asking me to go too, it isn't looking good

For a start.

Have you opened a browser and entered 192.168.0.1 and just STARTED to find your way around the modem ?

What you indicated as a problem most likely is nothing more than the DNS, web accelorator problem that everbody else is having.

If I can't get get you to go there, then how can we ever get you to disable turbo page or open a command prompt and flush DNS ?

If you don't go there we can't even tell what beam your on or if that beam is being "tweaked" at the moment.

Have you done a "hard reset" of the modem ?
This consists of pulling the AC power from the modem at the wall plug.

Do you have a router ?

Yes, i have entered ip you gave, and i get "FAILURE TO CONNECT TO SERVER". I tried at least 4-5 times, and ut won't open. Went around the back door, and got onto hn9000 system control center, and found "Turbo page-enabled". Do you know how to disable it? Because it won't for me?

when i had an hn9000, my signal strength would vary between 150-175 depending on the time of year.

during the spring and summer months my signal would be around the 150 end. in the fall and winter months, my signal would be near the 175 range.

The theory has always been that hughes increases the signal strength in the winter months to compensate for any ice or snow that may be on the dish.
