And after finishing the chat with him, I can't wait to go to Mediacom!

What happened, if you don't mind sharing? 12Mbps a giant no-go?

It's way too expensive! It would raise our bill up $30 to almost $100. We can get Mediacom for $30 a month (taxes and all) and get up to 30mbps. The downside of it is a cap at 350GB. I hope when our frontier contract expires they upgraded our area to 50mbps with the 999GB cap.

Plus, our line couldn't even support up 12.

Frontier sends these generic cards to people saying faster speeds are available, until they find out you are still 15,000 feet from the central office and it's all copper all the way. There will always be these pockets in neighborhoods unlucky enough not to be served by a fiber-fed remote central office or DSLAM. I live in one such area myself.

Mediacom is America's worst cable company according to Consumer Reports, but their speeds are still better than DSL in many cases. Frontier's contracts in many states are now pro-rated, so you may be able to walk by paying a much lower penalty than the original one specified. Also, if your service is far below what they advertise, you may find making enough noise will get them to waive it altogether, especially if the Public Service Commission, Attorney General or BBB is part of the effort.

Mediacom and Frontier are the only ISP's around here. Our central office is fiber fed, but we have no remote around. We get what we pay for, always have, but it's far too little bandwidth for us.

Good luck with Mediacom, we just dumped them because they couldn't keep the internet working for more than a few days.
I gave them all the chances in the world to fix it, but they failed time after time.

Our town just got Frontier with the 12/2 package and I couldn't be happier. Nothing like having internet that is fast and always works flawless.
