| In round numbers, damn hot!
I think a test is the best answer you will get. It's going to depend on the lamp, what's being heated, the color of object, how long it's radiating on the object, etc.
Here is somebody that did a test but not the wattage you have.

Subaru1-3-2-4Premium join:2001-05-31 Greenwich, CT | well how about will it get over 422F?
I'm not too sure given it's only 250W |

 | reply to Subaru Omnidirectional? Unidirectional? How focused? What color object? |

1 edit | said by Subaru:Directional and dark green in color Green paint, ink, paper? The reason I ask is most green inks, paints become transparent in the IR. That would reduce the temperature.
As I said, an empirical answer will be the best. |

| reply to Subaru Watt and temperature are not directly related. Keep in mind that 1 Watt is enough to bring a metal filament to a bright white glow!
Distance obviously plays a role but also very important is the ability of the illuminated object to dissipate some of the heat.
If that green surface is the copper roof of a church or cathedral (in open air) you are much harder pressed to raise the temperature then putting the light bulb inside a green painted wood cabinet (closed with no airflow). -- Got some spare cpu cycles ? Join Team Helix or Team Starfire! |

Subaru1-3-2-4Premium join:2001-05-31 Greenwich, CT | quick testing shows 190 C about an inch away from the bulb face, I was hoping it would of been higher. |
|
 | 190 C is 374 F so you are not that far from 425F . Are you trying to reach 425 ? Maybe some info on just what you are trying to do with this would help |

Subaru1-3-2-4Premium join:2001-05-31 Greenwich, CT | Heh well it's not home related
Trying to make a connection bond with something that lifted off a board because of a bad heat transfer, the device (A GPU) is a BGA object.
It's a well known defect in HP/Compaq laptops with a Nvidia GPU. |

| said by Subaru:Reached 210 C / 410 F Be careful, at that point you may start to melt the electrical wires if it's in a lamp. SOOW is only rated to 90*C after all. |

|
 | reply to Subaru Make sure you monitor the temp on both sides of the motherboard . Reaching 425 on the top of the GPU will not insure adequate heat at the board-pga interface . Good luck, sounds like you really had nothing to lose by trying it |

Speaking of heat lamps I don't think I've seen on installed in over like 7 years... |

I was working on a Dell laptop that was several years old, same problem, BGA solder went bad. I did a trick of pulling the heatsink off of the chip and powering it up, essentially cooking the GPU. It worked... powered up and ran a while... then went back to not powering up. Did it again, fix didnt last as long, gave up after the 3rd time (and had to disappoint my friend whose laptop it was)
Good luck to you! |
