Self Service / Automation tools

What types of self service tools or automation do you provide to keep calls to the help desk minimized? We are already rolling out a password portal so that is covered I just can't seem to find anything else we can do I know there is more out there.

When I search Google I'm just shown password portal solutions or article about how great self service was in 2012 and how its going to be even bigger in 2013. I've come up with a small list of ideas but being unfamiliar with the solutions out there I'm seeking assistance.

My list of what I think good self service tools would be

* Printing
* Software Installation
* Active Directory User Account Creation

I work for a large 17K+ user base and we are looking for solutions to get customers to have the ability to do more rather than call the help desk.

Thank for any input you can provide.

Password reset / changes is ALWAYS a welcome tool to save a call to the helpdesk.

Top of my list would be phone install / changes -- I am thoroughly getting sick of getting handed tickets
"my phone doesn't work," and find they're a new hire or the callback # is in the unused calling space and
no one caught it before taking the request.

Also useful would be the usual selfhelp stuff -- that'll be the day someone develops the friendly interface
to answer all the PEBKAC / ID10T stuff... but doesn't stop me from dreaming
