[WIN7] desk top gadgets safe to use?
A couple I quit using Win7 desktop gadgets after reading that they were unsafe to use and I have not noticed anything about their safety since. Are they OK to use now?
No. Microsoft has basically abandoned them. You can still use them (if you can find them to download or still have copies of them locally) but the security issues related to them was never fixed and won't ever be. -- ♬ Dragon of good fortune struggles with the trickster Fox ♬
How serious a threat is it to have gadgets installed?
About as serious as having programs installed.
There are three main aspects to the threat: (1) do you trust the program? (2) do you trust the web site where the gadget gets its data from? (3) is the data stream safe from man-in-the-middle attacks?
reply to rfhar I still run about 6 of them although I have over 20 installed..........don't plan on stopping to use them either just because Microsoft deems them insecure.
If I was that paranoid I'd stop using Windows. -- Sarcasm is the bodys natural defense against stupidity.
