[Parts Check] Sata Hard drive questionHello, I have a Dell optiplex 755.
It has a Western Digital WD Blue WD2500AAJS hard drive with 250 GB.
I would like to replace this and buy a larger drive. I checked on Dell and listed on replacement parts is a SATA 6.0Gb/s hard drive.
My question, is this compatible?
I'm not too sure if my machine supports SATA 6.0 if the current hard drive is SATA 3.0.
May someone assist? |

You can put a SATA III (6.0) drive in a SATA II (3.0) computer because it is backwards compatible. I have it in one of my computers. |

I actually have a 3 TB SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) HD in a SFF 755. Works fine. |

Thanks kingdome74 and aurgathor.
It's my mom's machine. There were bad sectors on the harddrive, and its a few years past warranty.
Her system is very slow. I vetted it on the Security Cleanup forum earlier this year. There was some improvements after running CHKDSK a few times.
However, it is still an issue. More bad sectors were found.
I will then purchase a new SATA III drive.
Cheers! |
