I need your help updating a FAQ !!

I need to do a long over due update on this FAQ: »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »Viewing the Modem's Signal Levels, Firmware Version & Log Entries

With your help, I can get this done more efficiently & in a timely manner.

Below is a list of modems supported by Comcast. I will not be including "End of Life" modems. I would need the following where applicable:

1) Address to access the modem
2) Username
3) Password

DOCSIS 2.0 & 3.0 Modems

Well, I have an Arris TM722G. Don't know if its the IMS or NCS one though...

But, I would be willing to give you the information for that modem.

In any case, how do you want people to help? Just do a reply to this thread, or send you a PM?

For Zoom Telephonics 5341:

»192.168.100.1/rf_index.asp

will get one to the 2nd page of modem diagnostics, the Initialization page. No login required. Clicking on the links to the left on the Initialization page gets other pages.

On the 3rd page - the Status page - the IP address of the modem is given and may be used to get to the modem diagnostics page. I don't know if this is different for different individual modems. I use this value in a Bookmarks/Favorites link.

No login information is needed.

I don't know if this applies to the IMS or NCS version. How would I tell which one I have?

I don't think the dhg's are Docsis 3.0 however. I know my 536 is 2.0 at best.

I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.

I have not and will not cut the cord.

I thought that you only wanted DOCSIS 3 modem information, but I noticed that several posters were reporting DOCSIS 2 modems; so I went back to the original post and saw that the D-Link DCM202 was on your list. I have one of those that I still keep around as a backup modem, so the information is as follows.

Original factory defaults for the D-Link DCM202:

Address: 192.168.100.1
Username: dlink (this is customer changeable)
Password: dlink (this is customer changeable)

The above information is what I remember from before I installed the special Comcast firmware from the D-Link FTP site: »ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Broadband/dcm202/F···rs_Only/

If that special Comcast firmware is installed (and when my DCM202 was new and still in the box, there was a bright red warning label warning that the modem's warranty would be voided if it was connected to the Comcast network before the Comcast specific firmware was installed *), the factory defaults change to this:

Address: 192.168.100.1
Username: admin (this is customer changeable)
Password: hitron (this is customer changeable)

* FWIW, I connected my DCM202 to Comcast's network before I installed the Comcast specific firmware, but the walled garden site would not let me activate it. After I installed the Comcast specific firmware, it activated with no problems.

Also FWIW, the firmware that I downloaded from the D-Link FTP site and installed ~9 years ago (2.01) is the same version that is still being displayed in the modem's status page (just as a test, I am using that modem to make this post); Comcast apparently never found a need to push a newer version.

Good catch.

I had intended to separate them in D2 & D3 categories, but changed my mind and forgot to change the "DOCSIS 3.0 Modems" heading. I fixed it. Thanks!

I have the Cisco DPC3000 which is a D3 4X4 modem. The address is similar to all others 192.168.100.1 but the odd thing is the modem is locked. Once the config file has been downloaded from Comcast you can no longer access any of the modem info. The only way I have found is to unplug the modem and quickly try to enter the modem address before the config file downloads but you have to be quick and you usually don't get much info. Crappy modem IMHO. I want a newer 8x8 one! If you need screens or anything let me know. I've talked to a dozen Comcast techs and contractors and no one knows what the password is to the modem?

I have the DPC3008 and I have the same issue. I went through the same circus you did. Why it's locked is beyond me. Guess they don't want Golden Screw Driver award winners going in and messing stuff up.

OK, let's not drift away from the purpose of the topic, stopping this sidetrip after two posts. If anyone wants to discuss it further, apart from this topic's purpose, please start a new thread.

Thanks.
