| [Philly] Chink's Steaks 
Since 1949 Chink's Steaks has been serving steak sandwiches and thick milk shakes to the residents of Northeast Philly. A few years ago an Asian woman said that the name offended her and demanded that the owner change the name. He refused and customers and neighbors of the shop supported him. Chink's won the Best of Philly prize for best steak sandwich in the city.
The owner attempted to expand his operation into another section of Philadelphia but failed as the name Chink's was unknown in that area. Once again the owner tried to rent a store in an up and coming section of town but the landlord refused to rent to Chink's as he said the name was offensive.
Last Thursday Chink's said that the name will change. This was reported in hundreds of news stories.

I agree. I went there a couple times after the manufactured controversy to support the place. One thing I miss since moving is all the good cheesesteak places - Jim's, Steve's, Tony Luke's...

| If I ever make a trip back up to visit, I'll hit the place up. There are no shortage of "Philly cheesesteak" places down here in FL, but it's not the same. I went through food-culture-shock over the last year since moving down.

Actually, these places get Amoroso rolls shipped down. I can actually get a pretty decent steak from a few places within a few miles of my house. But, I always thought Liscio rolls were better and the places I went regularly used those.
There's a place I haven't tried yet fun by folks who own a well-known place in Delaware County. Up there it's called Laspada's. But, down here they have to call themselves Delco's because there's a hoagie shop down here in FL that were here first which is also called Laspada's.

| Everybody that moves away say it's the bread. But I remember getting a piece of Tenderloin on 2 slices of bread when I ordered a steak sandwich down South.
Chink's Steaks now forwards to Joe's Steaks and Soda Shop.
.Sad story.
