Dehumidifier troubleshootingI checked our basement dehumidifier to make sure it was still working - it is almost 30 years old.
Rather then condensing the cold cools are frosting up. Is that something repairable? Given the age I assume it uses R-22 Freon.

Sounds like it may be low on freon. |

It might be salvageable with a little maintenance. After it thaws out wash the coils thoroughly.
Reduced airflow combined with low ambient temperatures are usual causes of icing. If the humidity control is set too low or is stuck on and it runs continuously, that could be another reason.
A loss of refrigerant is another possibility. If cleaning it doesn't cure the icing problem, then recycle it and just buy a new one. |
