2013 Price Increase

Just got my letter in the mail right after they announced the usage increase (nothing comes for free!)

My total package increasing $6/mo

Are we allowed to cancel services because of this increase????

Rogers and Bell legally lets customers cancel services when there is a price increase since the "terms of service" changes

Didn't they just raise the prices last year?

It's going to cost me over $4 more now for my Internet and cable which seems like a pretty big hike all at once.

How does the CRTC allow this to Happen?

We really need some healthy competition other than Bell, as this is just getting insane!!

I knew they would jack the price up for the ultimate 30 after they increased the usage rate from 175 to 275.

The price of the Ultimate 30 only went up by $1.00 and Cable went up $2-$3 depending on the package. But equipment dropped in price. The whole home DVR is dropping by $6-$9 depending on 2 or 3 TV solution. As well, the HD boxes drop $3 and HDDVR boxes drop $2.99. In the end, depending on what you have, either your prices will be going up, or in my situation, my overall bill will be decreasing. I think the price restructuring is not that bad.

I didn't seem to get the letter with the price changes. Would someone be so kind as to post all the changes here?

Thanks in advance

Is this just for residential, or does it apply to business users as well?

I don't know about Ontario, but in Quebec, yes. You can cancel w/o any ETF/penalty for this material change.

So if you're a Cogeco user in Quebec, yes you can call within 30-days of receiving this notice to cancel w/o penalty.

Same goes if they change any terms and conditions, speeds, B/W usage, privacy policy etc. Not just monetary material changes.

oh, Forgot to add...

In addition to this, for Quebec users, they are supposed to even advice you of your right to leave them in writing within 30-days of receiving this notice from them.

Compared to last year, I have a 50% increase in download speed, a 150% increase in monthly allowance and will have a $2 increase in monthly internet fee. This is offset by a $3 drop in cable TV with 2 receivers, so on the whole I'm $1 +HST better off! I got the DOCSIS3 modem for Turbo20 installed last week for under $12 including taxes.

Compared to last year, I've got a monthly transfer cap that's approaching what I'd consider reasonable. I suppose my upstream did increase, but I haven't noticed it making any difference to my service. And I've got absolutely zero upgrades or benefits to my cable service.

So for an upstream increase that's made no discernable difference, a transfer increase that's still not reasonable, and zero change to my cable service, I'm now paying $4/month more.

Cogeco continues to become a poorer value. I made the switch to a VOIP phone service a long time ago, I really should make the effort to look into Start for internet. And if it was up to me alone (and not my family inclusive), I'd've never even signed up for cable TV.

I have no complaints about the quality of internet service received (I'm leaving TV out since it's not my choice - HD quality isn't great though), and actually only have positive things to say about the customer service that I have received. It's just a shame Cogeco can't keep their costs reasonable.

I haven't seen the letter yet. Is this because I have promo pricing, or have I just not received it yet??
