Re: Firefox 20.0 Released

I HATE tabs...so Pogo is the only site it is used on...and IE7 is just fine with me...no problems at all.

> Please, please don't run an old version of IE if at all possible.

Why?
Is IE6 still supported? Does it still receive security related updates?

I thought that MS just updated ALL versions of IE?

I find tabs kind of handy As long as you are aware of the security implications of running an outdated Browser.

NEW - Per-window Private Browsing. Learn more.

Ooh look -- they caught up to Chromium. Now they just need to add private tabs to catch up to Opera.

Private browsing in Chromium is a joke. It shares all data with all other instances (history stack, login data, cookies, etc) of the same browser. And it's done by design, BTW. So, don't be fooled with the name Private, there is nothing private when you use it... I'd wait next 10-20 new major releases (that will come pretty quickly, as they do it now with the speed of the light ) to see correct implementation of really Private browsing in Chromium.

Based what I said on this, so not sure?

"According to Microsoft’s security advisory, the company will release patches for every single version of Internet Explorer currently available on the market, starting with the 11-year-old IE6 and ending with the Windows 8 default build IE10."

»news.softpedia.com/news/Microsof···00.shtml

Yes, including IE6.

Says here:

"Internet Explorer 6 on all supported 32-bit versions of Windows XP"

»support.microsoft.com/kb/2817183

Likewise the update is pending install on the XP box here - with IE6.

All other instances, or just other Incognito instances?

Because I'm quite sure I can log into two accounts at the same provider (youtube, facebook, gmail, whatever) at once using one "normal" window and one "Incognito."

Even Opera doesn't isolate one private tab or window from another. All private tabs share the same cookie/history/etc pool. Do you know a browser that does? (Maybe FF's new implementation?)

Oh I haven't really looked into Private Browsing of yet, but if I right-click the 'reply to OZO' link in your post, above, SeaMonkey (2.19 Aurora) gives me the option to open the link in: a tab, a new window, a new private window.

A new tab or a new window recognizes that I am logged in here.

A new private window does not see that. I would have to log in again.

The old IE (that everyone tries to hate now) with -new command line option. I use it a lot, when I need separate sessions. Or the Iron, which I run with dynamic profiles. Unique and temporary profile, that is created when I launch browser and is destroyed after I close it. That gives me the private mode, the mode that isolates all data from other instances of the same browser running on the computer at the same time. How to make dynamic profiles for Iron? I found suggestions here. The same approach you may apply to Firefox too, BTW. Launch it with dynamic profiles and login to as many different accounts at the same time as you need. Any new cookies that you may catch in the process (as well as any other local data, history, etc) will be dumped when you close it

You know I've wished for a long time that Opera had a "Open in private tab" option on its context menu for links.

Hmm. Maybe SeaMonkey will reel me back in...

Sure (from SeaMonkey):

  -ProfileManager Start with ProfileManager.
-no-remote Do not accept or send remote commands; implies -new-instance.
-new-instance Open new instance, not a new window in running instance.
-UILocale <locale> Start with <locale> resources as UI Locale.
-safe-mode Disables extensions and themes for this session.
-console Start SeaMonkey with a debugging console.
  -jsconsole Open the Error console.
-addressbook Open the address book at startup.
-compose Compose a mail or news message.
  -edit <url> Open Composer.
-mail Open the mail folder view.
-mail <URL> Open the message specified by this URL.
  -news Open the news client.
-setDefaultBrowser Set this app as the default browser client.
-setDefaultMail Set this app as the default mail client.
-setDefaultNews Set this app as the default newsreader.
-setDefaultFeed Set this app as the default feedreader.
-browser <url> Open a browser window.
-private <url> Open a private window.
  -new-window <url> Open <url> in a new browser window.
  -new-tab <url> Open <url> in a new browser tab.
-url <url> Open the specified url.
-chrome <url> Open the specified chrome.
-search <term> Search <term> with your default search engine.
  -preferences Open Preferences dialog.

-no-remote is what you would typically use.
