lawrence171Evilly Yours - Evilness join:2001-12-24 Canada | reply to badomen I have to say, stay away form 3web/Distributel. If and when they choose to increase their prices, and you're still on a grandfathered package (and lower rates), they'll cancel your account for the slightest reason. For me, it was an old credit card on profile, and instead of contacting me about the CC, they just canceled my account. They wanted me to pay $90 or something to reconnect the connection, and for the month upfront. (Would've gladly paid for the month, but $90 reconnect fee?)

hm @videotron.ca | reply to mikee said by mikee:i checked vmedia but it doesn't look very promising... the only good package is 35/3 and 25/2 for cable, but the dsl side of things is more expensive than tsi and start Dunno about that... Going by webpage prices:
*DSL* 25/10 TSI unlimited: 57.99 25/10 Vmedia unlimited: 52.95
15/10 TSI unlimited: 49.99 15/10 Vmedia unlimited: 45.95
Vmedia wins here.
*Cable* 28/1 TSI Unlimited: 61.95 35/3 Vmedia unlimited: 46.95
18/512k TSI Unlimited: 54.95 25/2Mbps Vmedia unlimited: 39.95
Vmedia wins again
Note, I found and put any toronto postal code to be able to check TSI's prices for unlimited to compare apples to apples. Not clue if their website is up to date, but should be after all this time.
None of this unlimited only when the moon is at a certain angle with Stonehenge and the North-star when it's 3-am BS.
Seems to me Vmedia has some very good pricing. |

You're saying sometime in the near future, all Teksavvy customers who currently own a modem, will be forced purchase a rent one to continue with their service?
Or are you talking about new subscribers? Either way, first I've heard of this... |

They are out to make a name for themselves, especially here with the DSLr group, so I don't envision and funny stuff going down if you try them.

Unlimited. None of this weird stuff where it's only unlimited after 2-am and before the sun comes up, or whatever this weird thing is.
No throttling at peak-times so ISP's can save a dollar while cutting your speed in half.
But the install and modems fee's are there, along with the dryloop fee. So it may not be what you are after. Not to mention realistic cable modem prices no grouging like TSI's price and way cheap unlimited packages. I'll be signing up with them shortly as well and finally getting off the sinking ship that is Teksavvy. |

| reply to GeorgeBurger Sorry George but last i checked Your reselling CIktel for cable u said, and Bell for Dsl - Do you actually provide the isp end for your internet? Like Other indies do or do u just resell other peoples services I ask because i do not know Not to belittle your offering.
My personal feelings is i am very leary of Ciktel after reading alot of reviews of Connection issues recently and Not having enough Thruput even though they are on agreegated I also read some saying it works for them great But as they are an unknown to me I would rather Pay more for teksavvy and Know my connection will work or i can Drive to chatham and demand Timbits in re compensation than go with Ciktel cable P:) -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

| network quality seems to be an issue on TSI, for the longest time they've had constant Youtube issues (buffering in HD), it apparently got fixed but I left after 3 months of it. Same problem with twitch.tv streams being unwatchable since it's a live stream and buffering doesn't do anything, I believe it's still an issue.
since I've moved to a new provider I haven't had those issues. |

1 edit | reply to badomen Distributel has increased their pricing on their cable packages in Ontario. Don't know all the differences but I know they all went up.
28/1 unlimited went up $4.00 from $49.95 to $53.95.
No mention of any new speed tiers yet though. »www.distributel.ca/en/category.a···Internet (make sure province is set to Ontario to see)
VMedia's 35/3 unlimited package looks really nice. Too bad they aren't available here in Barrie. Wonder if they will be any time in the near future? |

| reply to GeorgeBurger Looking at the vmedia website, it appears that in order to get the internet packages, you have to order a TV package. The ordering page starts on TV and says "Please add a Basic package."
Is that not correct? Can you un-bundle them? |

 | I never had Youtube issues when i was on Tsi previously, I did not use their Caching servers though might be why. -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

No, those are for the new VDSL packages. 15/10, 25/10, 50/10, for both new and old subscribers. Bell orders, apparently. Oh rats, I typed that name......
Lemme edit that original post. |

 | reply to Try them Thanks for the tip about Vmedia. The mandatory TV pack is not exactly a great idea for me, though. I updated the main post with the comment below:
Vmedia = Here's another unlimited service. Prices are still slightly better than Teksavvy, my concerns are just that: - You also need to get an IPTV pack from them in order to have the internet. The basic pack is free for the first 3 months of service, after which it becomes a $25/month creature perched on top of your TV. - The first payment may hurt: $100 install plus $110 modem (can be rented for $8/month, though). - Curiosity: for the 15/10 plan, they say your own ADSL2+ modem is welcome. Awesome, but..... 10 mbps upload on ADSL2+??? |

I didn't notice that anywhere. Matter of fact I just check and even used their online order thingy and still don't see that.
You sure about this? Did you call and this is what they told you? |

Need a VDSL modem for uploads faster than 1Mbps.
Bell lumps 15/10 and 15/1 together these daze in their RETAIL plans (and calls it all 15/10 ), and it's causing much confusion, because two different technologies, modems, and sets of rules are involved, depending upon what speeds your 'hood REALLY supports. |

Is that not correct? Can you un-bundle them? On the VMedia website, you can just skip to Step 3 (by clicking on "3") and then just choose an Internet package. You are not forced to choose a TV package. |

mikee join:2012-12-21 Gloucester, ON | reply to GeorgeBurger forgot i was thinking about the 300gb package is 39$+dry and not unlimited your price is actually better. although being a person who doesn't use much bandwidth unlimited doesn't matter to me so i would probably stick with tsi just for the cheaper price. |

1 edit | reply to mikee I'll go with Start. As a current Teksavvy user, I've considered switching over for the last couple months, but been holding out because I'm lazy and don't wanna deal with any service issues like I did when I first signed up with Teksavvy. Plus, Teksavvy claims we'll get the ATPIA speeds soon on cable... Though I'm not having high hopes on that as people love to delay things here. Start just seems to be hitting all the right buttons right now to me, while Teksavvy is hitting most of the right buttons, in what I think is important to me.
Edit: You left out CikTel. Another cheap ISP alternative.

 | reply to IIgs The only thing that is changing modem wise is concerning the VDSL packages. Currently we have a mandatory modem rental, and we are looking into the option of rent to own or purchasing the modem outright instead. |
