| [DVR] DCX3400 annoying hum Recently updated my DCT6400 to a DCX3400. I'm getting annoying hum/vibration that be heard across the room about 20 feet when it's quiet and when watching TV from about 10 feet. Anyone with this DVR have this problem, or is this normal for this unit.

 | Mine is loud too. I put a thick foam mouse pad on top of it to deaden the sound and stop the case vibration. |

 | Thank you for your response dj. I just find it hard to believe this is normal. Anyone else ? |

 | reply to joe0307 I don't have that problem. When I'm within a foot of my DCX3400, I can hear a slight hum, buty not at 10 feet away, especially with the TV on.
Did you get a new DCX3400, or a previously used one? In any event, I'd suggest swapping it out. |

 | It had a large scratch on the case, so I presume it was used. I have asked ComcastVic about it last week, but still waiting a response. Thanks for your response, I guess I will pursue this. -Joe |
|
 | Yes, that's the first thing I would do-----swap it out! |

 | reply to joe0307 I was wondering where comcaststeve went. |

 | reply to joe0307 If you think it's loud now wait until you open it and put in a terabyte drive! I can't run my box without my AC on as it's so loud! Now I know why they use such small drives. But it's still worth it for 275 hours of HD goodness!

 | reply to joe0307 Anyone not having a noise issue with this box? Do I get a new dcx3400 or a RNG200N?
-Joe |
|
 | I would bet its the hard drive in it, a lot of them come with whatever was cheapest. A lot of Seagate drives (especially those from 3+ years ago) were known to be pretty noisy and have quite high level of vibration.
If you can, you might try and get the DCX3501/M (aka the RNG200N) since they should be only a year or two old at most.
Just a word of warning I've now seen Comcast also call the DCX3400/M an RNG200N since they both fit the requirements to be called an RNG200N. |

 | Thank you for the info. |
