 | DSL Extreme VS Charter Internet If Charter sends a technician to my house to repair a cable problem (outside of the house), do I have to pay for it? If yes, how much? How about problems inside the house? What kind of cable modem does Charter use? Thanks guys! |

| No its on them. Supposedly you are responsible for the cable inside your house but I have never had to pay anything. You also can get wire maintenance which is insurance for your wires inside for a few dollars a month.
Charter uses a few different modems. I currently have a Cisco DOC3008 and know someone else in the area that has a Motorola 6121 |

| reply to SAN_MARINO I am first going to assume you are talking about DSL Extreme Fusion. If you are trying to decide on DSL Extreme vs Charter than its kinda simple. DSL Extreme will never be close in speeds to Charter. Pricing all depends on what services you want/care about. If you want a POTs line that gets power from the telephone line and has unlimited minutes then its hard to go wrong with DSL Extreme. If you already have Charter for TV then the increased speeds over DSL Extreme are pretty nice. If you have a mix of the two or satellite its a bit tougher.
Mainly look at the distance you are to the central office and use the pinned chart on the Sonic.net forum page and see the kinds of speed you should be expecting.
Also its a good idea to look into the extra fees and taxes that DSL Extreme has for Fusion. I think its around $12 a month. |

 | reply to kbowman Thanks! I thought TWC serves in Pasadena??? |

 | reply to kbowman My home phone is dead and it's under my dad's name and it's like $11 per month. I read many people complained about DSL Extreme and Charter is not any better. They're not happy w/ their billing practice. |

| reply to SAN_MARINO Charter at least serves most of Pasadena.
Regarding billing practices I do have experience with both. Charter has gotten pretty bad and you have to stay on top of them as they have been loosing money for too long and want to turn a profit. For the past four months my bill has yet to be the same when nothing has changed. DSL Extreme is pretty fair and constant. You just have to watch out when your contract expires as they seem to just put you on another one when it ends. |

 | Thanks for your great advices. |

 | reply to SAN_MARINO DSL speeds (no matter how many you add EXTREME to the name) will NEVER compete with cable internet speeds. ever. |
|
 | Yes, I agreed with you. They're crap too...just like AT&T. |
