safari won't let me email a webpage

I am using the latest version of Safari in Mountain Lion and using Apple Mail. I tried sending the webpage I was viewing by clicking on the little envelope on the menu bar and a box pops up saying that it can't send the email and that I should us Apple Mail and may have to re-install Mac OS. Any idea how to fix this?
I attached a screen shot.

Little envelope? On my Safari it's a "share" icon. See above. Try doing a File==>Share==>email this page, and see if Safari brings up an email with the web page in it.

Hmm... It's weird. I can send the page using the "Share" icon or going to File...Share... An email opens up in Mail.
However, using the "quick link" to send it doesn't open up.

That is odd. I just added the email quick link and it works well here. It brings up an email the same way the share icon does. I don't see any preferences specific to that either.

Do you have another mail program installed by any chance? Like thunderbird? Perhaps you have another browser set to email via another app, and that's interfering with the specific email icon in Safari?

Have a look in Mail Preferences under Composing, see what you have set for "Send new Message From" entry. If you select your default email account there, then Safari will use that email account to send email. There may be something funky there?

I think that was it. I have used Postbox in the past and still have it on my system. What I did was go into Mail preferences and then switch the default to Postbox. I tried sending the link and Postbox opened up. I then went back into Mail and switched back to Mail as the default composer and then went to Safari and now when I click the link Mail opens!

Yup! While it's not always convenient, or even possible at times, I try to use native applications as much as possible on whatever OS I am running. This sort of thing is not uncommon. Glad it worked out for you.
