| [WIN8] W8 says it can't format drive while it does so anyway What's that message in Windows 8 Disk Management?
W8 says it can't format the drive while it is actually formatting the drive. The message pops up almost every time.
[I tried to capture and post the screenshot from the Windows 8 computer to a flash drive to post it here, but Windows 8 security must be stopping it from appearing. That's a whole separate issue.] |

What sorts of drives are you seeing this with? HDD? SDD? Thumb Drives? |

Do you find any messages in event viewer? |

| Tried it on two older mechanical drives. One was Sata, the other was IDE. That's in Windows 8 on a Asus S775 mobo with whatever chipset the P5E3 boards use.
Got the same result both times in Disk Management. The old volumes were deleted from the drive, new simple volumes were created. The formatting process started. Then the Windows 8 message that Windows could not format the drives popped up. The drives kept on Formatting in Disk Management until the formats were complete. Then the drives showed up as formatted in the upper and lower Disk Management panes.
It just seemed odd that W8 would flash an error message saying that it couldn't do something that it was already doing at the time.
I did not check event viewer. |
