best method for keeping mud tracking down?

Friend has a new house going up, it's been too wet for them to do the final landscaping, and concrete work... which is leaving a ton of mud.

Any suggestions as to what to toss down to lower the mud traffic?

Clean straw (NOT hay)... that is, straw without seeds! Naturally breaks down, eliminating the need for later clean-up during landscaping.

I would 2nd the straw. I have stepped on a board on mud before and I went down fast! Those can be quite dangerous.

Put down a heavy layer of straw to keep the mud from coming up through and it will eventually decompose and help yoru lawn in the future.

Straw is definitely the best for landscape areas. If you are also talking about sidewalk and driveway areas, gravel can be used for those. You should use gravel with relatively large pieces, they will not only help limit the tracking of mud, but will also help provide a better base for future concrete installation.

Paving stones can be useful if the mud is just surface stuff. Then find a use later. They can be about a dollar per foot square tile for cheap concrete. »www.homedepot.com/catalog/produc···_300.jpg

Wire Bristle Brush Door Mat

All of the above suggestions definitely, and to keep it out of the house get THE one of these at each entry door.

We've had 2 at front and back door for many years. Finally the back door one needed replacing and the wife threw down a regular mat she picked up shopping. Immediately we could tell how much more mud and random tracking was getting in the house and found ourselves quickly searching where to get a wire brush mat again (had been so long we forgot where we got them originally).

Very sturdy. It bristle brushes your shoes right and clean and the mud and dirt falls in between the grates away from the next use. Easy to clean too, when it needs it.

You can google it, but they sell them here:

Remove the mud with a Loader until you reach dry dirt. Pile the mud in a corner of the property and let it dry until summer.
