TIVO Cablecard Setup Problem

Hi, the Charter cable installer has tried three days in a row to get my TIVO Premiere XL4 to work with Charter expanded service. He's changed out the cablecard three times with no luck. The basic local channels digital and HD work fine. Can you provide any help?

I don't know if this is a possibility, but I'll through it out anyway because you said "expanded basic". The XL4 doesn't work with analog channels. If Charter has "all digital" in your market it shouldn't matter, and must be something else. It took 2 service calls to get my 2 boxes working and I know how frustrating it can be.

Do you know if you're in a switched-digital area? If so, you need a tuning adapter with the cablecard and your Tivo. Just a thought.

Also, is there a diagnostic screen on your Tivo to show the authorization status of a given channel? If so, what does it say about the channels in the "expanded" lineup?

You might try Tivo's Cable Card hotline:
»support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/141

Also an FCC complaint is always a good thing:

Hi Bikepal,
I had the same problem a few days ago. Its about getting the right person over the phone to first provision the card right and then send a sequence of signals to the card to properly activate it. I had tried several cards and a few HD channels worked as well as locals and that was it. I finally called and asked for someone who knew about TiVo first, and she told me they don't have the TiVo department anymore, but she was experienced in getting cable cards activated. She did some digging and found a few codes were wrong in the system and then nothing. Then she said she was going to send a sequence of signals to the card and Boom it was working right. I have found out with having 2 TiVo's that not too many Charter reps know how to properly activate the cable cards. Just be patient, but persistent and you will have it up and running soon. If you have too, just hang up with the one your talking to if they can't get it going and try again till you find the right person. Anymore questions, feel free to ask. Also ask the tech's if they come out again, if someone in their dispatch that knows how to activate them properly. Here I know there are 2 guys the techs have mentioned. Vance

Don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I wonder if that means Charter has dropped that plan for Charter version Tivo's to be installed? Has anyone heard if that's dead now?

Yes Misfit TiVo is dead.
Bikepal, your tech needs to call the headend tech that has access to the DNCS or DAC and make sure the .TAR files for your cards are loaded. Because of the small amount of these devices that are deployed the tend to sit on the shelf for extended periods of time which results in the operating files being purged from the system. The headend tech can look and if this has happened he can get the files restored.
