 | Suggest a modem for new service. I will soon have comcast service what is the best/reliable modem? I was going to just get the SB6121, I will have there 105 or blast service.
I know there's newer modems but don't see much of a advantage. |

I know there's newer modems but don't see much of a advantage. I would absolutely not recommend an older 4x4 D3 modem like the 6121 for Blast or Extreme speed service.
You want an 8x4 D3 modem (8 bonded channels down, 4 up). While a 4x4 modem can deliver either Blast or Extreme speeds, 8 bonded channels are likely to net you more consistent performance, and if you are paying for that kind of connection, why settle for less from your modem? There isn't enough difference in price to warrant that.
The Motorola SB6141 would be the modem to go with if you are happy with Motorola modems (no reason not to be), but also the Zoom 5341J would be an excellent choice, and has a great track record with Comcast service, known to be a little more signal-tolerant than the Moto modems...also dials in at a few bucks cheaper to boot. -- Deeds, not words |

 | reply to David9726 Agree with PeteC2, I have been on a Motorola SB6120 4x4 modem for the last 4 years, but when the speed upgrade hit last week and my Extreme 50 turned into 100/20, I bought a Zoom 5341J 8x4 at best buy and have consistent speeds |

 | When I had comcast years ago I had a moto and it was trouble free that's the only reason I picked the sb6121.
What modem is comcast leasing out now days? |

| reply to David9726 You should be able to get the SB6141 on ebay for $65 or so. That's what I got for my new service a month ago.
Here's where I got it, best offer them starting with $65 and increment a buck or so until they accept. Mine accepted at $65.50 a month ago.

More so than not but YMMV. |

 | reply to jaynick Have to agree with Jay, way too many horror stories over the years about ebay buyers not being able to get their modem provisioned due to it being "stolen" from one of the cable companies. |

 | I recently bought a Cisco DPC3008 from Microcenter. I've been happy with it. Provisioning took less than a few minutes as well. |

| reply to jaynick I do agree with you, however there is a method to make sure the modem is legit. I've asked a seller on Ebay to provide a pic of the MAC & SN. Once provided, it's easy to call Comcast to see if it's in their system. As a safeguard, once the seller provides the pic via Ebay forwarded correspondence to you, there is proof if the seller sends a different modem that doesn't match up with the provided MAC & SN. -- In God we trust; all others bring data!

 | reply to goofy01 I had a knuckle head friend that bought 6 modems on ebay and was going to resell them and make a few bucks. They all had been stolen and all he got was 6 pissed off people. It's not worth the risk. |
