elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | meh? expect Sony to do the same |

me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | They already said they wont, plus that would be an even worse business depression than MS doing it. Assuming MS already is. Because if they don't have it but MS does that will lead more costumers to them, if both of them have it nintendo may get more customers. |
|
elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | Sony and MS are playing chicken on this once one does it the other will follow |
|
me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | Sony has already said the ps4 wont have always online drm. To back out now would be suicide. |
|
elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | the console wont but the games will since it will need to for the 720 any way...
so you can boot up your PS4 but you wont be playing any games with out being on line any way |

 | reply to me1212 They said they won't for now. Give it 2, 3 years, they'll flip a switch and remove linux support require an always-on internet connection.

dra6o0n join:2011-08-15 Mississauga, ON | Ah, linux support. People get pissy when they can't install linux on a closed ended system, and wouldn't rather pay 200-300 dollars to build a separate machine for the sake of a linux or better. |
|
 | No, people get pissy when they buy something advertised as having a feature, but the manufacturer then removes that feature after the purchase is made.
My point was that just because they're claiming they're not going to require an always on internet connection, don't think for a moment that they won't change that later and start requiring one.

me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | reply to elios If different if the games/devs choose to do it than is the company forces it on us and them. |
|
elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | right and Sony can say "OH our system doesnt need it we are the good guys" when in the end its the same for both systems so why does it matter? |
|
me1212 join:2008-11-20 Pleasant Hill, MO | Sony isn't forcing it, MS is. How is that NOT different? |
|
elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | because if the games need it for the 720 they will have it for PS4 |

| reply to dra6o0n Sony got scared way too easily with the potential trouble a hack could cause due to Linux support. Taking it away due to this fear was uncalled for, a rather bad move, and pissed off a lot of people. Enough, in fact, that they got badly hacked. This ended badly for everyone - gamers, and Sony.
Could somebody have maybe someday hacked the console to actually do something "bad" like play old games, yes. Could it have been adopted easily enough for others to do? I doubt it, from my understanding. It was tricky enough that the # of people who'd actually do it would be so small it's not funny.
I mean, if you really look into it, this is just insane.

Sony wanted (and GOT) access to IP addresses of anyone who even LOOKED at this shit: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hot···tation_3
Leaving internet connectivity for an Xbox on won't solve any of this silliness. It'll only piss off those who don't want their console always talking to the mothership.
I, for one, don't want my console(s) sitting there constantly phoning home if I'm playing a single player game. Despite all the hype, not everyone plays "only" online games with their consoles.
Call me old school, but I rather enjoy a normal single or two player type of game without having tons of idiots scrambling around killing each other constantly. |

Re: meh? Ah right because the games between the consoles must be 100% identical, I completely forgot about that, thanks for reminding me. |

elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | dont have to be but publishers want them to be and they will "love" the idea of being always online IM LOOKING AT YOU EA |

 | reply to elios 360 requires you pay a subscription to play games online. The same games on PS3 does not. How do you explain that, according to your logic? -- Argue opinions using facts. Not facts using opinions. |

elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO | not the same thing look at game like Mass Effect 3 if your not on line it turns off any DLC you have blocking you from loading any saves using that DLC
it does this on all the 3 platforms |

| reply to elios So what does linux support have to do with this thread again? Btw, attaining linux support on a console can lead to hacking of game servers or worse, in a way, to a corporation that focuses on being profitable, is a bad idea as too much freedom can lead to a lot of messed up trouble on their end. Sony had all the reason to be afraid of a linux support. |

dra6o0n join:2011-08-15 Mississauga, ON | reply to RobinK In exchange, PS3 game publishers seemingly created DLC with 'activation' codes to counter the fact that used game markets thrive on the PS3 more than the 360 because online play doesn't cost anything. |
