[HSI] Splitters for Hot Line

My Charter internet was installed with the homerun line going directly to the cable modem. I was noticing some slowness recently and brought up the cable modem interface and saw the following statistics:

Downstream SNR - 38
Downstream Power Level - 12
Upstream Power Level - 41

I then tested a 2-Way and a 4-Way Splitter. Both just cheap splitters. The 2-Way brought me to:

Downstream SNR - 38
Downstream Power Level - 8
Upstream Power Level - 45

The 4-Way brought me to:

Downstream SNR - 38
Downstream Power Level - 4
Upstream Power Level - 48

Which scenario is ideal? What brand splitters would you recommend?

If you have line maintenance have charter out. If yo don't call and add line maintenance then have them come out..

Using splitters to attenuate your signal is NOT an appropriate solution. It is causing your upstream power to be a little on the high side (4-Way Splitter).

Charter needs to make some power adjustments at the tap and you most definitely do NOT need wire maintenance for an external power level issue (outside drop to your home). Wire maintenance should only be if you have a problem in your home. Just watch to make sure they don't charge you a truck-roll fee. They love to do that. Before you let the tech leave, make sure they note on the ticket that their is no charge for the visit just to be safe.

Using splitters to attenuate the signal is exactly what the technitions do. A 4-way splitter off the input sounds like good plant design. Use your 3rd option. Try to find sound terminated caps to screw on the 3 other open ports if you can.

Thanks for the link MrFix. I had come across it before my post which is how I knew adding the splitters was getting me closer to the optimal scenario. However, I was unsure as to whether or not that was the appropriate solution. It sounds like there is some debate. Some say have charter out, some say all charter will do is add a splitter, which I have done.

I may give them a call and see what they suggest. If it is a free visit I guess it cannot hurt.

Dont add the splitter. Leave it alone. If you wanna have Charter out just to make sure everything is good for peace of mind then go ahead, but adding another passive device for no reason isnt the right answer.

P.S. Your signals are fine
