Re: meh?

Ah, linux support. People get pissy when they can't install linux on a closed ended system, and wouldn't rather pay 200-300 dollars to build a separate machine for the sake of a linux or better.

No, people get pissy when they buy something advertised as having a feature, but the manufacturer then removes that feature after the purchase is made.

My point was that just because they're claiming they're not going to require an always on internet connection, don't think for a moment that they won't change that later and start requiring one.

Sony got scared way too easily with the potential trouble a hack could cause due to Linux support.
Taking it away due to this fear was uncalled for, a rather bad move, and pissed off a lot of people. Enough, in fact, that they got badly hacked. This ended badly for everyone - gamers, and Sony.

Could somebody have maybe someday hacked the console to actually do something "bad" like play old games, yes. Could it have been adopted easily enough for others to do? I doubt it, from my understanding. It was tricky enough that the # of people who'd actually do it would be so small it's not funny.

I mean, if you really look into it, this is just insane.

An overview:
»crave.cnet.co.uk/gamesgear/ps3-l···9305364/

Sony wanted (and GOT) access to IP addresses of anyone who even LOOKED at this shit:
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hot···tation_3

Leaving internet connectivity for an Xbox on won't solve any of this silliness. It'll only piss off those who don't want their console always talking to the mothership.

I, for one, don't want my console(s) sitting there constantly phoning home if I'm playing a single player game. Despite all the hype, not everyone plays "only" online games with their consoles.

Call me old school, but I rather enjoy a normal single or two player type of game without having tons of idiots scrambling around killing each other constantly.
