| It's going to happen... Maybe it won't be with the PS4 or the Xbox 720, but consoles requiring an always on internet connection WILL happen. There's too much obsession around copyright and control for it not to happen at some point.
And the sad part is that the majority of the world doesn't care that they're handing control of their systems over to the corporations who created them. People already don't care that there's not really an easy way to archive iOS apps and games, or that Apple can delete whatever it wants off your device. Sure, when it happens, there's a small burst of bad PR and then people forget about it and go right back to buying the same locked down crap.
People today don't even bother saving the installers for the stuff they put on their computers. "Oh, I'll just download it again if I need to..."
Very few people care about the future, they only care about right now. |
