Re: Local Office not aware of DOCSIS 3.0 You don't have to know anything about tech to sort out a billing issue - which is what the offices are for. |

| reply to allen12 allen12 , a properly working D2 modem should get the new performance speeds, even though a D3 modem would be kinder to the network probably.
The new performance speeds are 25/5 in most markets. In a few, they are "temporarily" 20/4, which is where the Blast speeds were before the upgrade.
The only way I know to find out if they would swap a D3 for a D2 (rented) is to ask. At the local office, you might have to help them by giving some D3 modem make/model info to get the right one.
If you really want to swap anyway, you could buy a D3 and turn the rented modem back in. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| reply to allen12 1-800-XFINITY number initially gets you the first tier. Training/knowledge at this level varies. You sometimes get a knowledgeable person, probably on the fast track to promotion. Some have found continuing to call back, being patient, eventually gets them connected to someone who knows more than the script.
Don't be upset with those who answer the phone. They are doing the job as they were trained and what they are trained to do does resolve a lot of problems without needing a higher level tech. When you need more than they can provide, you want to politely convince them to bump you up to the next level or keep calling back, as explained above. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

If I need a 3 modem, anyone know if I can get comcast to send me one out and then I could just drop my old 2 off at the office?
Thanks FWIW, there are benefits to be had by using a D3 capable modem on an upgraded to D3 system system regardless of one's subscribed to speed tier such as increased connection reliability due to the multiple bonded channel redundancy and failover capability. There are also increased capacity/reduced congestion benefits which result in increased reliability of receiving one's provisioned speeds especially during times of peak usage/demand. Higher Powerboost assisted speeds have been noted as well. Having a "fatter pipe" is a win win for both the provider and the subscriber |

I've gone into my local office a number of times, and asked some technical questions, and got answers from the people behind the counter. To me, they are not just a "Bill Pay Center". Sure, they won't troubleshoot an issue for you, as you are not at home when you talk to them. However, if you go in and ask (at least, my local office), questions about service levels, speed, required hardware, etc, they have the answers. Most of the time, they also have the needed equipment in stock as well at that location.
