 | [DSL] Question about POTS splitter I got my POTS splitter installed today and everything went well but for some reason I can only get Internet on the direct line where the POTS splitter was installed.
I've tried two other outlets and it doesn't seem to work, is it possible he wired the splitter incorrectly? |

|
 | reply to snark Yea I get a phone signal on them. One of them I use as a regular phone outlet and the other one is for my internet. |

Yea that's what i mean. Which one is it? At the POTS splitter or the jack that was dedicated from the POTS splitter for DSL. |
|
 | Sorry I answered that poorly and edited it. I do mean the jack that was dedicated from the POTS splitter for DSL. |

That's because the jack the modem is on is dedicated from the POTS splitter and is the only one that can be used for the modem unless you change the wiring directly at the POTS splitter. |

 | Ah i see the tech never told me that would be the only Jack i could use. I guess he just assumed cause there was a computer beside it. How do i rectify this? Do i need to call and get another tech here? |

 | That's really terrible news for me. Tech missed 1st date and I lost a vacation day then I had to take a second Vacation day today and the Tech comes after 7pm and now I'm probably going to have to take a third vacation to fix this.
Upgrading with Teksavvy turned into a major nuisance and I was so excited to finally be able to get 25/10. |

 | VDSL filter/splitter are typically installed at a specific location in the home with all telephone jacks down stream of it wired into the back side of the filter. Typically at the demarc or 1st NID. VDSL is touchy, the less wiring between the MODEM>FILTER>BELL external line. The better.
The Bell techs sometimes only have 1 choice of locations, depending on how the house wires are set up.
Sadly that means we can get stuck with horrible locations for the modem. When in a bad location Wireless N network cards quickly become our friends. |

| Thats actually a Telecon tech who does the pots splitter for teksavvy and I believe the install has a 30 Day Guarantee or so i remember being told if so, Call within the window for a remedy. to avoid a charge - DO NOT QUOTE ME ask tsi to be sure! -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

 | Oh thanks I'll definitely ask about it.
I guess it's partially my fault I didn't know what to expect or fully understand the installation. The tech just asked me where the line was so I just assumed he wanted to know where the demarc was and when he saw the computer there he must of assumed I wanted to connect the modem directly to that computer.
So will they just have to change the splitter location to the correct outlet or rewire the splitter? |

| Decide what jack u want the Modem at the tech will connect a line toner there and tone it back to the demarc then connect either the secondary pair on that wire or the Wire itself if no secondary pair is viable to the DSL section of the filter in the basement. In order for a pots splitter to work It Gets the direct Line feed from bell Put into the Line portion then The DSL goes from the second Section and finally The tech runs a wire from the Phone to your 66 Punch block or qbb for your phones to work, The only time its done differently is if u have an alarm system in which case the feed MUST go to the alarm first then to the Pots splitter otherwise Your alarm may not work in case of an emergency. -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

Thanks I appreciate it, I understand a bit more now. It's funny though i do have an alarm system so i guess it's going to be a tiny bit more complicated. |

 | reply to afterburn999 Teksavvy said I'll have to handle the rewiring myself. |
|
 | But will Teksavvy arrange this for a price, ie can you ask them to send someone to do internal wiring work? |
|
 | reply to afterburn999 Can't predict how badly your speeds would potentially be affected, but what about removing the POTS splitter and putting those inline filters on all your phones in the house (except the line where you want your modem)? |
