Re: Basement re-finishing progressIn the back left hand corner of the pic, is it just an illusion or do all the floor joints line up there for several rows making what looks like a square in the corner? |

Looks like a great spot for an end table. |

Best (and cheapest) way to increase the value of your house is to finish a basement. Next is to remodel a kitchen.
Looks great. Make sure you wire it up for future needs. Make sure every wall has coax and data. |

There are 3 conduit drops inkey locations on the outside walls. All the inside walls (where a tv/media system) are directly accesible from the back (unfinished section) |

It is not finished and I know i said elsewhere that I would update only when it is finished, but I just learned of another delay (gotta build a section of stairway wall, long story). Note: That's only one section, the other section (last picture in thread) didn't change, except for the baseboard and a better cut door. So while that thing takes me another week....

Looking good. I like crown moulding. It adds a very nice finishing touch. |

FINISHED! * * Not really but tomorrow I am bringing down furniture and my kids' toys. The long handrail is going to be installed tomorrow. I'm just waiting for the help of my uncle since it's 12 feet long. The treads will need some trims to hide the joints between the treads and wall & risers, I just can't seem to get it right. That will be very easy. My miter saw is in the utility room so I can do it while kids are playing there and install them when they are sleeping. The stove brick platform was stained. I am very satisfied with the result, but since the floor got elevated so much, I couldn't cut a groove along the rim of the brick platform, hence I am looking for way to cover the gap between the laminate planks and the bricks. Mind you, the gap is very narrow, less than half an inch across, but still needs some sort of aesthetics. |

Thanks all of you! I gotta give most credits to MaynardKrebs. Everything underneath what you see, framing, insulation, sump pit, subfloor, all the complicated stuff, was done properly by pestering him with 100 questions per square foot. I will stop the clock on how long it took me to complete this by tomorrow. I started gutting the basement on May 4th 2012. You can see how thick the brick base of the gas stove was, that gives you an idea of the thickness of the subfloor |

Great job on the basement. You did such a great job that I think it's too nice to call it a play room. That has man cave written all over it. |

I still have SOME unfinished space in the basement for a man cave and I want to convert part of the garage into a workshop. However, in the short term I will be using the den as my man cave (it started off like this for the first 2 weeks we moved in ) My kids' toys are in the den but that will change today. |

Just curious, if you ballpark what you think the approximate cost was?
It's so nicely done. |

said by KrK:Just curious, if you ballpark what you think the approximate cost was? I'll do a break down later. Right now I fell sick with a pretty weakening flue while I had to move a LOT of stuff in the basement and my wife's supersized desk in one of the bedrooms down to the den on the main floor. Plus there is a lot of wiring to do from behind the walls for network & media. I didn't know what was going to be where so I just put in conduits. Though, quickly guessing I'd say 15k$, maybe even 20k$. |

Basement mostly furnished, and faces blurred by the wife's request. The media section needs more speakers, but that will come. |

Have your wife seen your avatar? This is the best Baby Cave I've ever seen! Yeah she did and she forgot. Though the toy section is for my 5 year old son. My 10m old daughter was just strolling. Too bad the government banned the sale of baby walkers, they are really cool, but obviously require attention |

You need to post a pic after the kids have actually played in the basement. Toys all put away is not the "normal"!
Did you get the stair handrail up? |

said by robbin:You need to post a pic after the kids have actually played in the basement. Toys all put away is not the "normal"! True, but we do force our son to do a full cleanup every day. They might not be organized, but they are put away. My son already made a dent in the drywall. He went nuts downstairs with all the open room, rammed himself in the wall, and his knee made a bump indentation. It's not cracked, but damn he already went nuts. Mind you it's only 1/2" drywall, but that should be enough! said by robbin:Did you get the stair handrail up? No, the finish had a problem, some droplets formed, so I will need to sand it this week. |

meh, i did consider it, but it was more work and my wife felt it was "old style". Plus it could also get damaged and if I take it off, it might damage the drywall behind it. Anyway once my kids grown up enough to stop destroying drywall, I will take out my mudding gear and patch up, repaint, redecorate (because it won't be a kids' play room anymore ) |
