[TekTalk] porting a bell number to tektalk

Hi I would like to port my bell number to a tektalk phone service, I am told they cannot port my number, why, understand they may have a waiting list.
What can I do without changing my number

I read that to many people are porting out of Bell, that they hit a regulatory limit.

There is no such limit.

POTS to Tektalk is a go. I just ported my number from Teksavvy POTs to Tektalk yesterday.

Assuming the OP does in fact have a Strathroy number...

There was a similar situation last week with a service provider that also used ISP Telecom, yet couldn't port a number from a rate centre that ISP Telecom did have presence in. Out of sheer curiosity, why would this be?

Can TekTalk port numbers from London, ON? (519-200-5555 for example). If so, Strathroy should be portable, unless there is some limitation I don't know about.

It's possible that we just don't have the rare centres for strathroy. Let me check for you.

Confirmed. We don't have rate centres there. Sorry about that

If I may ask, what would it take to be able to port Strathroy numbers? I'm curious because ISP Telecom claims to be able to do LNP there: »www.isptelecom.net/coverage.htm

...if the answer to my question is not a trade secret, that is.

It's not a secrete. It means that we haven't bought the proper "rights" to have tektalk phone services there. We have London numbers but that wouldn't do the trick

We can always try to port it to pots if that's something your interested in?

I was not aware that TSI (or any VoIP provider) could pick and choose specific rate centres from those covered by their partners such as ISP Telecom, instead figuring it to be an all-or-none proposition, or at least by entire provinces or similar zoning.

I learned something today.

Also, ISP Telecom themselves are (still) pretty slim for coverage in Eastern Ontario in general.

Anything smaller than Kingston is ignored.

So much for chances of TekTalk to happen over here....

Well. Don't forget that TekTalk is early in deployment. We haven't opened the full taps yet.
