New York | easy way to easily transfer from PC A to PC B... I have a 24/7 home server with a ton of media... pictures... videos... files...
I am traveling ... occasionally I need to download a few files from it...
I think FTP server would give me the best option ... direct transfer from my server to my PC
but I have had issues ...
are there any other good options that someone can recommend?

TeamViewer (free for personal use) has VPN and/or file transfer functionality. » www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspxYou can setup a predetermined password ahead of time and configure TeamViewer as a service so it is on when the server computer starts. They also have a web interface versus a client mode if you want to use that. The screen shot is a file transfer example session with me accessing my wife's computer, named Spokane, (on the other side of the house) from my laptop then selecting a file to copy over to my laptop. This works equally well across the public internet. Another vote for Teamviewer. I use it all the time to help my GF fix issues with her laptop. Not to mention, I use it to transfer files back and forth, and it works very easy across the internet.
