Re: Maintenance period -> No warning! Excessively Long!

I don't get you OP. You complain it's for work yet you have no backup plan?

....I worked as a @home CSR for Rogers.

And my employment contract required 100% up time while working. So I under stand your pains.

I had a Rogers cable connection, and lost my employment due to [this] Rogers Cable constantly going down.. lol....

LOL indeed !

So they expected you to spend YOUR money to supplement their own flakey connection to you, one to which you already susbscribed and paid.

Hmmmm.... Chutzpah ?

Well it would depend on the wage they paid him.

Plus he saves on costs like transportation and packing meals to take to work.

I'm in the same situation this week, on call. I just checked my vpn connectivity through tethering
to my cellphone. Works well. I will be fine!

Your cell phone carrier doesn't offer 100% uptime. Rip them a new one if it goes down!

Gang, thanks for all the advice. I think this is all a case of a poorly written notice.

Yep.

And this will be one area where you and I will digress..... the first notice was SO poorly written that the vast majority of the customers you have (you know, the types that signed up cuz of your TV & bus ads) will think that you/they WILL be totally down for 4 consecutive nights.

Since those customers are also paying you good money, don't you think you owe them a properly worded maintenance notice?

Just sayin.

I believe the Maintence window occurs in the Middle of the night thus affecting the least amount of customers, I highly doubt it will interfere with someones finals as those happen in daylight not in the middle of the night P:) and for oncall workers- I guess you get to spend a few nights at the office instead of at home! if u lack a backup and refuse to risk it! P:)

I think if Marc wanted to change the name from Teksavvy to Teksavvi, people would complain lol. Can't make everyone happy.

Are we so addicted to the internet that we need more than 2 days to re-arrange our days around a potential internet outage?

Sadly we're so pampered these days that things are expected not appreciated.

IMO, the 48 hour notice that Teksavvy provided is more than adequate for a consumer level product. Are we so addicted to the internet that we need more than 2 days to re-arrange our days around a potential internet outage?

If it was a single outage, for an hour or two? Sure. 4 days in a row of outages, for 5 hours at a time ... with 2 days notice: NO!

4 Days in a row with Outages in the Middle of the Frigging Night! - Just to clarify.

No. No. No. Read the thread. These are not outages. They are periods during which an outage is more likely than usual...but most people won't experience more than a few minutes at the most.
